Apparently our MP, who I believe to be currently working hard for Stafford and Penkridge, was incredibly disappointed when she read about it at her home in Kensington.

Well she must be doing well for herself having moved from Hammersmith to Kensington while "working hard for Stafford and Penkridge". I have no idea where she lives, in much the same way she has no idea where Stafford and Penkridge are.

Regardless of the issue involving migrants, I do find it rather strange that local decision can be appealed where there is no national strategic importance (like a railway or airport). Local democracy matters and since developments like this only impact on local communities it should be they, through the local elected officials, that have the final say.
Having said that, short of levelling the place for housing, I can’t really see another use for the site. Also, I’m sick of the racist rhetoric around people in need. Once they’re here we’ve got to do something to look after them and help rather than othering people who have nothing.

Somebody has set up a Facebook page and inviting "who wants to be in my gang?" just to pour more potential fuel on a potential fire that hasn't been lit yet! They are already blaming anybody who challenges them with such comments as -
People like you are blind to reality and are the problem
Labour opened the borders and allowed illegals in
You're part of the problem, they are not genuine migrants
and best of all
"You're a human trafficker sympathiser!"

Something that really bugged me was the people welcoming Ukrainians with open arms whist still chanting stop the boats to everyone else.

Because a group of refugees has walked passed them, been to the same shop gone to the local swimming baths. Strangely enough crime figures haven’t risen in Cannock since refugees have arrived, however intolerance levels have. Unfortunately your scare mongering about safety of women will not help matters.”

The report that accepted the proposal made a point that while fear of crime has risen actual crime has not, and hence cannot be used as a strong justification to refuse. Basically stop being snowflakes.
The same person who doesn’t know the difference between “asylum seeker” and “illegal immigrant” and quotes wildly incorrect figures about how much money asylum seekers are given, while inferring they’re all rapists. Absolutely showing her true colours. Shame as the idea of a community hub isn’t a bad one in principle, but not run by someone who is so exclusionary despite claiming to support those down on their luck.
