I think there was a Windmill pub and a Speed the Plough thereabout but it's been the Lamb since the 1830s.

I do like the Golden for what it is and I love the staff there too, but I think the answer to your question is none other worth visiting within the radius described

Half hour train to Brum , five minute walk to China Town

But not until it gets to 68f

Sizzling Wok in Penkridge seems to get good reviews (not been myself). I believe it's an 'all you can eat' but table service rather than buffet style

@littleme The pub was originally called the Windmill in 1821, renamed Speed the Plough in 1833 and renamed again as the Lamb in 1834. Can't see the "& slaughter" anywhere unless it was a nickname - no butchers amongst its licensees as far as I can see. The "Slaughtered Lamb" was the pub in the film "An American werewolf in London" and there is now a modern pub of that name in Finsbury. Noticed any werewolves around the area?

I'm sure the sign at one time was deep red, with a lamb with it's throat cut.....I've lived in stafford from 1973 -1975ish, then moved back here in 1995.....im sure I remember the sign vividly...but then I remember a abbotoir somewhere by the prison when I was a kid that no-one thinks existed.....

Exactly this colour.....but the lamb had it's throat cut and was dangling as if someone was holding it under its tummy.....head right down & limp....

I moved to Stafford in 1973 and don't remember such a sign.
Rowlands abattoir was next to the prison.
