Rikki (Ogdens Gas & Plumbing) Is he ok?

Morning all,

Has anyone heard from Rikki recently and know if he's ok?

Not seen him on the forum for a long time and just checked his website and noticed that the "Contacts" page of the site is blank.

Called both his mobile numbers but one going straight to VM and one hardly even ringing.

Ok, I admit that my boiler is on the blink and I desperately need it looking at, but that's secondary to making sure Rikki is ok. Hopefully just too busy with work rather than anything serious?

I managed to track him down for a 'paperwork emergency' about ten days ago - he is alive, but is fairly snowed under. A big job out-of-town at the moment, I believe he said...

I know he also has some rather important stuff coming up that is not work related, which I suspect will be taking up a fair chunk of his time. Not seen him myself for a while admittedly, but despite being family we rarely do anyway! I'm sure his mum would have told me if something was wrong :)

Didn't get back to me about servicing my fire and not answered any messages.

Was beginning to think it was something I'd done, but if others aren't being able to contact him as well..........

Likewise, hope he is okay which i'm sure he will be. It's always worrying when someone who usually responds quickly doesn't respond at all.

Cheers guys...

Next question - who on earth can look at my boiler if Rikki is busy elsewhere? Any recommendations of someone who will give a genuine honest opinion rather than just try and flog me a new boiler?

That's exactly the reason why I use him. I picked him at random after I had a 'professional cowboy' condemn what was clearly a perfectly viable boiler and then send me a 'quote' to replace it for £3,200..

No idea, that's why my fire remains un-serviced as anyone else I've used in the past has ripped me off or done a bodged job. :(

I have no idea who Brian Chanllier is, but Rikki had my service done and the certificate in my hand before 11am the next day.

Certificate you say??? Should you get a certificate for servicing a boiler? Confused now :(
Don't panic. It's a rented place - just bureaucracy. If it's your own boiler then all that matters is that it works OK, but there are regulations covering gas appliances in rented accommodation that requires annual servicing, inspection and the documentation thereof..

Phew - thought we were missing something there!

We use Neil Lowman & Sons 01785 243050 to service our very old back boiler. 2 young lads do the job, they are friendly, polite, quick and efficient and have kept it going along nicely, and I think the price of £60 is reasonable.
However, I recommended them to a friend, she says an older man came out to her, seemed disinterested in the job (repair of a combi boiler) and quoted only for a whole new system...to be fair though only 2 of about 8 gas engineers she phoned turned up to look and quote...

The scope for 'work generation' is immense - the most important thing is to find somebody trustworthy. The cowboy* that wanted to fail the boiler that I referred to above, didn't perform half the required tests and performed those that he did do very poorly - he just was going to fail it - and he cost fifty per-cent more than Rikki. That was five years ago and that boiler is still functional perfectly.

* I knew as soon as I opened the door to him that he was going to fail it - and he'd never been in that house before. The previous chap that I'd had twice from the same business had been as OK as Rikki is, but I just can't take the chance of getting a bandit again.

...type 'Brian Chanllier, Stafford' into Google and you'll know what i'm talking about, he said he was going away on 'business' and then i saw his mugshot in the local rag, sent down for a few years, that's all i was saying, a little light heartedness on a missing person (who'll show up whenthey want to) that's all...?!

I thought most forumees knew about the goings on in Stafford, past present and (almost) future, i've ticked myself off don't worry.

Ah, Brian Challiner, you mean - friend of Paul Cope..?

I tried Chandler before, when Chanllier didn't come up with anything, but your clue gave it away...

Neil Lowman never returned any calls when I tried to contact him about servicing our fire a few years ago.We went up to the showroom in Marston Road and the woman present was on the phone and never even acknowledged us.
My parents had him to do their fire & the young lads really ripped them off. Charged £20 extra just for putting a dab of oil on the control knob which they reckoned needed loosening up! Best of it is, my parents are still using them as they can't get anyone else to come out when they phone around.
