Rikki (Ogdens Gas & Plumbing) Is he ok?

[The Stafford Beast]

Rikki gave me and Mrs Stafford Beast the gift of glorious hot water back after 2 days of me having to soak up leaking water from our hot tank, and 3 days without hot water.
He came yesterday (Sunday!) with two of his associates and fitted a new hot water tank for us and completed the landlord's gas certificate while here as well in (what seemed to us) super-quick time. All went very smoothly

We're always very happy with Rikki - rate him very highly.

Yowch! That does seem a lot.

We had a new tap fitted recently, and had a leak under our sink from the shut off valves for the dishwasher (we don't have one but the pipework is there), he charged us £55 for the call out (cotes heath - middle o' nowhere), tap fitting, two new shut off valves fitted and also a check over of all of the sink pipework. That seemed reasonable to me.

That was also plus VAT but he didn't charge us for the new valves (at least not itemised - apparently they're cheap as chips).

Can't remember his name now but he came from Titensor so not sure if he would want to go as far south at stafford.

After failing to get return phone calls off quite a few gas fitters over the last few months,including Rikki, I spotted the IGS shop on saturday as I walked past. Booked an appointment for this morning, a lovely bloke actually turned up early and the prices he mentioned he charged for servicing the fire & central heating seemed quite reasonable. (Can't remember off the top of my head what they were, but no-where near the prices quoted above for Parsons.)

Good luck Staffordjas, the world of the tradsmen is a strange place.

I've dealt with a number of them in the past (and no doubt have to in the future) and by 'heck they're a law unto themselves, i can only echo your '...failing to return phonecalls' scenario, it comes with the trade unfortunatley.

...and your '...Quotes for various jobs (hopefully) in the post to me in the morning ....... smiley face' erm good luck with that, i think you'll have to replace the smiley face with a nonsmiley face in your next post, in this thread!

Given up expecting anything to go as I hoped now so won't be too disappointed

Got the fire working great myself armed with my powerful hairdryer .Even the bloke today agreed I seem to have successfully fixed that problem

I know this thread hasn't been used for a while but did anyone ever find out about Rikki? I have been trying to get hold of him over the last couple of weeks to continue some works in our house but am having no joy! He did a great job before so really want him back to finish the job.

Not exactly found anything out but I did at least see him one morning last week. I was heading down Lichfield Rd and he was going the other way in his works van with two guys sat up front with him, so he's still working!

He most certainly is - there's been a big job, out-of-town, that I know of, at least

He's not been on the forum for a while I think? I know he had a few things going on lately that would affect his time, thought he was back in the swing now though.

The clever bugger's pulling a publicity stunt!! Plenty of people talking about him, pictures of his van being shown etc. Damn I wish I had thought of it first!

On a similar note though, it's good to see that people have not lost faith in Rikki's work. When I myself disappeared from the forum for about 6 months, I was amazed (in fact, overwhelmed) how much people still continued to recommend me.

A van just like that has been parked outside The Island everyday this week. I'm not sure how big an operation Ogden's is but that would imply he's been doing the fit there....
