Who knows? Everything is running so far behind. the cinema was supposed to be open for next spring!!

To be honest, with the bulk of it done I suspect the rest of it will whizz up now.

I did have a question - the large expanse that seems open almost directly opposite the new registry office - is that just going to be storage depot? I can't find an answer on any of the plans.

My friend is an area manager for chiquitos and will be responsible for the Stafford branch. He told me that they are keen to open asap, however they are being held up by the builders.

There's someone building walls there today, if I'm thinking of the same place

The unit next door to Costa?

Yes, it looks like 3 smaller units on the plans but no suggestion of who will be taking them up. Brit and I walked from the train station to Asda to meet @Goldilox panic buying a a suit and it was lovely have the riverside path open again. Really lovely walk through the park, past revolution etc.

but the steps from the riverside footpath to the shops is still closed. although they looked finished so hopefully will open imminently

I did wonder why there is still fencing up when you can easily walk round the other way.

Ok from what I know from being a sign maker, the 3 smaller units...
The glazing is being fitted soon as the signage brackets have to be fitted to the framework first.

End closest to town - My Belles Icecream/coffee
Middle - I've heard it may be sos from mill street but don't hold me on that
End closest to Costa - something along the lines of aspecto mens clothing

People queueing outside Outfit waiting for it to open this morning.

I have also noticed a good three or four times as many people walking down Mill Street - guess if they come in on the train it's the logical route to take.
So onwards and upwards Stafford, I'm looking forward to the rest of the shops opening and for the record on a personal note rather than a business note - I really like the look of the new centre :)

You are absolutely correct and, as a lover of the Mill Street area, it's great if the footfall is increasing. The problem is, as you say, it's the logical route to take from the station- cutting out the whole rest of town. We can only hope that, once they see Mill Street they may want to explore further. Mind you, they would be disappointed if they did.

Sorry to be the voice of doom, but a lot of people might come to Stafford a few times to see the new centre, then hardly ever visit again once the novelty has worn off. By this stage much of the rest of the town will be a mess of closed or charity shops, the market will be dead and the Guildhall will be deserted. Over to you, eternal optimists.

Stafford is having a really rough time at the moment which has not been helped by the constant Severn Trent roadworks for the last two years. I think it's put people off from coming to the town. We have to hope that the new development will draw people in and when the new cinema is open, it will stop people travelling out of town to watch films.
