Ah yes, good old Lotus Records.
I still have a Lotus bag - and from the Mill Street days, too. Offers?
and a tandy torch.... my god Gramaisc.... your home must be an emporium of Stafford historical items!!!
:)
I'm glad that you clearly have a higher regard for the retaining of iconic items from the past than Florence and cat_woman do.

top of the mkt arcade just through the swing doors was an area where parents well usually mothers could leave their kids while they sauntered off shopping, we'd just play on the bars that were there totally unaffected by the situation. No cctv to watch over us it was down to the eldest to take charge and look after the others, nowadays the teturning parent would be duly charged with neglect and the kids featured in the red-tops. this in not me harking back to the 'Good-old Days it's just that's how it was 40 or more years ago.......

I remember being left to play with my brother and sister on the stairs in M and S while my Mum shopped. And playing out all over the estate, all day, no questions asked. My Dad used to whistle loudly to summon us home.

How things have changed. I don't think we locked the front door when we went out to town as a family and that's only about 20 years ago.
Only a couple of years ago my wife went to the local shop (2 minutes away) and left the door unlocked and that was long enough for her mobile phone to vanish off the arm of the chair! I kept telling her she'd misplaced it, then 3 days after a drug addict apologised to her in the street for taking it!

I'll bet he whistled very quietly - if the truth be known.

She cant have been as bad as you, as your parents moved house and left you behind.

Gone but sadly missed: every single video shop in the entire town. When I were a lad there was Videoworld on the end of Salter Street, the place behind the offy at the town end of the Wolverhampton Rd (just next to where the Laura Ashley shop is now), pretty much every other offy/shop in the sweet Borough of Stafford. Now I can't think of anywhere at all to go and rent a DVD. You can get them from a library, but not in the evening. Fair enough there's Lovefilm and t'internet, but if you just decided off-the-cuff to watch a film that you don't have to download/stream/order in advance/borrow off a mate/watch whatever rubbish is on the telly, you're pretty much screwed. Shame.

Not even noticed, but you're right. thing is <evil capitalist mode> if they were viable they'd still be here. They only died out because you didn't use them enough. Nobody closes a business that generates profit, unless there is greater profit in closing. So its our faulth they're gone</evil capitalist mode>. Although much as I want to support our local merchants, I'm skint and work when they open :(

Yeah...it's more of a sentimental thing that a viably functional thing.

I'll get my DVD of that particularly good film, 'Dark Star', back from Florence if anybody would like to hire it.

We also had the vid store on corner of Chapel Street (the former Bowens shop, now a bookies)

The offlicence at burton square (The Local) is one of the few left, byt they aint got much choice and i think charge £3 ish for a single nights rental.
