Bad enough that you have the Civil Enforcement Officers out and about slapping tickets, on any car they can, apparently you can now get a spot fine for littering, £75 or £50 if paid within a certain time. This fine may not be new but it's the first I have heard of someone actively out and about issueing them.

While littering is disgusting and everyone should make the effort to find a bin I personally do feel that as well as paying taxes to the government and to the council they are continually finding new ways to take our money. So I have an idea, why don't we just all have our wages paid to the Government, they can take what they need and give us the rest back, it would save us all a lot of time and hassle.

That's terrifying. They can't administer the current system properly after taking between 20 and 40 per cent of our income, paid to them by our employers. How can they justify taking all of our money and then paying us? Thousands will not receive their pay, their correct pay or enough pay to live on each month and that's near as dammit a fact. And in the usual style of the revenue, you will have to wait 12 - 48 months for grievances to be sorted, so if you're living pay cheque to pay cheque you're going to get very hungry very quickly.

Will we get a vote on this?

I think that we're all underestimating the fantastic job that HMRC does. Sums are quite difficult, especially percentages, as I'm sure we all remember from primary school, even if we have bought them hundreds of millions of pounds-worth of computers to do it for them. Just let them have all your money and be grateful if you get any back...

I wholeheartedly agree with fining people who litter, can't see an issue. If you can't pay the fine, stop being a ****.

Litter only offends our aesthetic sensibilities - as does graffiti and is rarely a cause for concern from a Public health and Welfare point of view. There are too few litter bins about anyway - most councils arguing the point of 'security' post Warrington Bomb and relishing the savings of not having to install or empty them.

Dogs and there nasty Byproducts are much more loathsome surley?.

If we must have officials - zealous or otherwise - on our streets doing the Polices' job for them , then make them do something which will make our lives better in some tiny way.

Spot fine for Dog messers, inconsiderate pavement parkers, Hazard light users who are clearly not breaking down etc

Make Town centre buisiness sponser litter bins.

I understand that there may have been some dog-related spot fines lately. Difficult to do the pavement parking thing when they've made it compulsory in Corporation Street.

Agreed Corporation Street seems to be some sort of quasi legal loophole - I suppose they are designated by white lines.

Can't help thinking mind that the the great and good regard it as some sort of additional calming.

Daft thing is most have garages or pull ins at the rear - unlike in say Castletown.

do you never tidy your house because having it unkempt "only offends your aesthetic sensibilities"?

I drop my litter off in Hednesford on the way home after work, that way nobody notices.

I see what you've done there - a bit of provocation laced with clumsy sarcasm.

To address your two points:

Litter certainly does make the place look like a shithole – so does Graffiti, Dog mess bad architecture (new Railway Car park), Poorly maintained Parks and Gardens (many outside of the town centre in desperate need of paint), Potholes and uncut grass and verges.

In Shrops lots of main roundabouts have been uncut since midsummer and are now a meter high – the same is happening in Hospitals, Military units, Schools and Hospitals as organisations and authorities reign in outsourced services.

At the moment it is only offending our aesthetic – but it may one day become a Health hazard (poor visibility for motorists, vermin moving in etc) which will counter any savings made short term.

In answer to your second point.

Yes!

Is this not why any of us tidy? If I get home and there is a crisp packet on the path I’ll pick it up and bin it – it is not a problem other than to my aesthetic. If one of the Jenksie brood has left Action Man or Barbie lying around the same rule applies.

If they have left a dead pigs head on the dining table then we are into a whole new area of Health.

What councils are doing by employing officials to dish out spot fines is trying to change behaviour not remedy a perceived problem and it’s not their job to do that unless there is a clear risk to health.

Even then I tend to think it should be the cops doing it.

A pet hate of mine is fag ends flicked with much gusto out of cars, agreed on the crisp packet and re the dead pig's head on the table, what if it's cooked?......

Surely changing behaviour is better than cleaning up after them, as if you stop them dropping litter in the first place the problem goes away.

And some tool flicked a fag out of their window last week that hit me in the face, luckily my visor was down at the time. These sort of people should just be shot.

Dim Tax?

Ask people to name the Prime Minister at all points of entry to the Town and if they do not know charge em' £2.00 toll.

Mind you I'd struggle with this one myself today. Is it still Clegg?

Thats hardly a dim tax, just current affairs. It should be how many sprogs do you need to pump out to get a 4 bed semi and a 50" plasma. If you get it right, you get shot.
