Forum O. G.
I've noticed that the Forum now automatically capitalises all words in thread titles. This doesn't offend me, really - but it did also stop me from posting GE in a title, it kept resetting it to Ge, which was meaningless, in order to have both letters capitalised, I had to insert a space that shouldn't be there - G E.

I wonder what it would do to eBay or iPhone?
Now it is only capitalising the first word and it won't even allow self-capitalisation of any others - I've just started Temporary lights on Weeping Cross and it insists on "weeping cross"...

Enjoying a drop of red.

Done a test and you are correct. Please delete my test.

Good grief, I'm away for a week or so and this drama unfolds!

For what it's worth, I agree with @Cedar Forestry & Logging Ltd's original point to some extent. I personally find The Forum to be a bit clunky and I would love it to be more intuitive, but my skills in such areas are not quite up to the challenge. :(

I don't quite understand how this thread took such a turn for the worse. I thought the question @Cedar Forestry & Logging Ltd asked was perfectly reasonable, and he was talking about technical aspects of the forum, so how it ended up being taken personally and turned into mud-slinging I don't know.

Right, here goes:

For me I just click on "New Posts" at the top and then read what has been posted since the last time I was on. I find this very quick and easy to navigate.

I'm so glad to hear this! I always assumed this is how everyone browses all forums (simply because it's how I've always done it), so when I found out this wasn't the case and people were not seeing some things because they were posted in sections that they don't read, I was amazed (e.g. some members have no interest in computers, so never read the Computers & Gaming section).

If anyone reading this doesn't use the New Posts link at the top of the main page, I would strongly recommend you start doing so. :P

It works well I've never found it slow as to ease of use its spot on imo
Remember not every one on this site is computer savvy

See, this is very interesting to me. I think the opposite! I often think we would have far more active members if The Forum were easier to use, so to hear you say that you think it's not slow and clunky, and that it's easy enough to use for the non-technically minded is music to my ears. :)

I believe that the Forum has some problems with Hotmail addresses.

Correct. For some reason, if you have a Microsoft email address (so that's Hotmail, or Outlook.com, I believe) you will not receive emails from The Forum. I have tried to fix it, to no avail. :(

It would be a dream if it was converted into a phone app..

I looked into this, as for a long while I felt the same, but it would have been far too costly to develop and maintain. The last facelift The Forum underwent, however, introduced responsive design, which means it adapts depending on the device you are viewing it on. That way, you can use it on your phone/tablet and it will almost look like an app, with the added benefit of being compatible with any platform.

You can even have a tile on your phone, so you can launch it like an app; just go to the home page http://www.staffordforum.com/xf/index.php and tap your browser's "share" button (on an iPhone this is the square with an arrow pointing out of it in the middle of the bar along the bottom of Safari), then tap "Add to Home Screen". Et voila: you have a tile on your Home Screen that looks just like an app, so you can access Stafford Forum with just a single tap. :)

I miss the cuffy button...

I did suggest this, back in 2012:

Would you like to be able to rate posts?

As you can see, people didn't seem to want it, and No pipped Yes to the post by 10 votes to 9.

@Cedar Forestry & Logging Ltd

It very much sounds like you are referring to me. I was the one that got ticked off by Admin for referring to someone as female when in fact they were actually er, female.

For what it's worth, I don't think @Cedar Forestry & Logging Ltd was referring to you. I obviously shall not say whom I think they were referring to. ;)

And you did not get "ticked off"! I simply answered your question. You have somehow inferred this to mean that 1) you were being reprimanded and 2) people are not allowed to refer to gender. Neither of these are true.

yes, thanks carole, still not had any reply from admin on why I'm not getting emails, so if you're reading Admin, look at your messages

Apologies, I have been unable to attend to Forum related matters of late. I am looking into the Hotmail email issues, but at the moment I have no solution, other than to ask people to use an alternative email address if they have it (e.g. Gmail). :(

Sorry about that, should be back to normal now. I was trying to find a way of stopping people from posting threads with ALL CAPS THREAD TITLES, but it seems my attempts failed and just caused the above frustrations. As I say, I've reverted this now so you can all capitalise words (or not) with gay abandon.

My of is a different of. Should of. Apparently it should be should have. :(
Shizz.

For a while (during the Forum 1.0 days) we had a word filter in place that changed "should of" to "should have", "would of" to "would have", etc. ;) I removed it after a while though, because I thought it wasn't really my place to forcibly correct people's grammar.

So, to summarise: I think @Cedar Forestry & Logging Ltd made a good point, one which I agree with to some extent, and it's a shame that it turned into a bit of a pile on. On the plus side, it's great to hear that my concerns about the usability of The Forum are somewhat unfounded, and that most people seem happy with the way it is. :)

That confused me for a second - Boomshanka is my ID on another forum.

Personally, I think this forum is fine and serves its users well. I've no real complaints.

I'm not really sure what CF&LL was driving at. He seemed to want extra features and functionality but never gave any examples of forums that had them.

I'm a member of three other forums. One is like this in that it's primarily one where you can chat and exchange views. It doesn't have a search facility. The other two are for chat but are also used as a repository for information. One of them uses the same engine as this one. This forum compares favourably with all three.
