The Trades Club at Hebden Bridge is an excellent example of what can be achieved.

With a population of only 4,500 (11,000 to 12,000 for the immediate area) and located between Manchester and Leeds, it still manages to pull in an impressive array of artists: http://thetradesclub.com/

Where there's a will there's a way.

Agreed, picturedrome in Holmfirth, Moles in Bath, Telfords Warehouse in chester. I agree entirely with regards small venues, but cinema sized might struggle.

I would love to have the balls to start promoting music I love in the town, unfortunately I dont think Stafford is ready for it yet.

I would feel more positive about this buildings future if the library next door had not just stood empty for years.

And that sold for £300k less and still yet seems not to be viable.

The 'Greenspace' behind was cleared and tidied by Staffordshire Wildlife shortly after I did voluntary work for them in the mid-90's. It had been a real tip & dumping place for years, dangerous, frequented by alcoholics & other undesirables 'Yes I know'' but I assure people it used to be MUCH worse!

Lapping it up...

I was about to mention the remodelling of that area, when I began to doubt if it had actually happened, seeing the state of it now and so I was relieved when @gon2seed confirmed it.

Other areas were done around the same time - the bit by the road behind the Red Lion in Derrington was another one.

There is little Creedence in outing people, you know.....

We are entitled to our opinions ...
Would you sum up your opinion as "most who visit to complain about and as buildings is more SBC civic centre than say the swan"?

It is an interesting opinion, to be sure, albeit entirely incomprehensible.

There can surely be no more suitable candidate for the next lamentable, yet purely *cough* accidental, conflagration?
