The University was leaving anyway; it's a private enterprise and there isn't a lot an MP can do to stop them going besides asking nicely.
How much did they pay for it when they 'bought' the Polytechnic from the County Council?

Machinations is what's going on.
I suspect someone has had a word.
"Chukka mate, you're not for us".
Terrible choice. Can't see him wrestling the lost vote off some Geordie Kipper!

That's who they should be asking, that and the Kentish (eg) Tory - no good asking amongst yourselves.
Maybe it would be a start for the Left to stop shouting racist, xenophobe, little Englander at anyone who doesn't share their metropolitan sensibilities.
Why shouldn't Labour be a more robust Pro-British party that puts the interests of British people first. It would have to actually mean British Jobs for British Workers and a restriction of non UK citizens from being considered for social housing.
I suspect such ideas don't go down well in polite society.

I think Gordon Brown used this as a slogan.
You can't discriminate against EU citizens.

I suppose that's the crux of the re-negotiation that Cameron has to get with the EU. Control over our borders will be the sticking point and I doubt the EU will agree for the UK to opt out of the Freedom of Workers.

We would be in serious trouble if we do not allow foreign workers

That so called renegotiation would close down all NHS services within days

Careful what you wish for

Camorons stance is to continue with EU membership, what was interesting yesterday was the CEO of JCB saying it makes no difference if were in or out.
He went on to say that it was a lot easier to trade with North American than it was within the EU even though were a member state
