Stafford Hospital - What a car crash

What I really don't understand is how any of the management still have their jobs. Their job is to manage the staff below them, to carry out the wishes of those above. If people were dying unnecessarily they should have been sorting out the failures in their own departments, anything else is gross misconduct surely? If a fault is found with certain staff, their line managers should be fired for not fixing it (and their managers etc.). Why else do managers get more money, if not for the responsibility?

Was correct procedure followed?

No: Fire them
Yes: Fire the one who wrote the procedure

I've known several staff up there over the years, and concerns have been there for at least the last 6. You know its time to worry when an A&E nurse tells you to call them if you are in trouble rather than an ambulance :|

In a place like this everybody should be accountable for their role. From CEO or whatever the role is, to cleaner!
I've told people about things I've seen that were wrong and the responses I've had may as well have been "it's your fault because you didn't report it!"
If I had my time again I would!

was on the radio yesterday responding to this story; saying how it has become difficult to recruit staff to the Ford on account of its potential toxicity on the old CV for potential employees.

Fair point - imagine the scene today,

Interview Room: "So i see that you worked at Stafford A&E between 2005 and 2008..."
Hmm but it's now 2011. I'm sure there must be a way to get our A&E maintained through the night. It's a sad fact that this closure seems to be a direct result of the cure the nhs crusade.

Whats the problem with the Ambulance service? Don't understand why calling a nurse would help

Seeing as quality of care is unimportant to everybody, how about this - after 10pm you're all welcome to come to my house for your emergency care.

Bingo - 24/7 A&E restored! There is even a doctor in the house! Unfortunately the doctorate is in Astrophysics, but it's better than nothing, right?

Car crash? You say?

Bloody hell. I've just ferried an old codger up there for a hearing test and the queue for the car park was out onto the Weston Road. The car -parks were all 'FULL'. .
Popular place despite what some say.
Popular? or just necessary ?
We await what happens when the A/E closes, The Ambulance service serving Stafford Cannock and Rugeley at breaking point as it is. Taking people to hospitals out of Stafford is dangerous

was your post a coded message for "Some drunken lunatics have broken into my house and are forcing me to post this poorly thought out drivel at gun point. I'm not really a moron. Help!"

I can see why people are angry about the hospital. I don't understand why that anger would be directed towards Julie Bayley, though.
The issue I have was what she said on TV about the closure of AE.
yep, that's exactly what i meant as well..

Whilst anything would be an improvement on closure, I'm not sure this would be the answer, not long-term anyway.

None of the managers still have their jobs, you have to be there to see what has actually happened and what is still happening

Margaret Stanhope isn't really connected with the DGH,I think the clue is in what you say - Mental Health Patients. They either close Stanhope or a couple of wards at St.Georges. 1 of them wards being a 14 bedded Older Adult ward, the very same 1 I work on!
And as for the DGH. My mum died up there 4years ago,she went in beginning of April, died April 20th, there was all sorts of muck under her bed when she arrived, dressings, heart monitor stickys, tissues etc etc. 3 weeks later when she passes away the same shit was still under her bed. The Domestic Services Manager at the time was the same woman who used be the boss of the domestics down St.georges yrs ago. My younger sister was all for going to the Newsletter and reporting it,but no,I said, wait I know the cleaners boss personally, let me speak to her. She was on holiday! So leaving a msg on her answerphone I had a moan n stuff, she got back to a little while later and said that the ward was all clean, she'd been and had a look herself. I would've hoped it was,mum had been creamated a couple of weeks ago by then. When the shit first hit the fan,all the housekeeping staff were told - If I go down,i'm taking all of you with me.

You aren't changing your mind, are you? Only if you are thinking of closing your house, I might go and sign something. I mean, OK, you may not be an actual doctor, but if I have a heart attack and the ambulance has to drive past your house, where am I going to get hobnobs? Can you fit a few stretchers in the hall?

Nobody likes seeing biscuits go to waste.

Unfortunately it looks like i'm now in competition with Tesco so i'm getting out of the A&E business before they send the bullyboys round.

Heard Jeremy Lefroy being interviewed on Stafford FM this afternoon. He was saying he would be sat in the A&E department form 10 tonight to assess things for himself and see if the figures added up.
Having been there myself a number of times during the night, even as an obsever I don't envy him tonight! If he sticks at it and stays through the night he might not see too much of Sunday!

I hope he does not expect tea and biscuits? Staff have too much to worry about.

I guess he will have a photographer handy.
