Stafford is on FIRE! SP Fireworks factory ablaze on Baswich

How much more excitement can Stafford take? First the roadworks and then this...

Must confess to having thought, at first reading of the thread title, 'now that's what I call exaggeration', then to feeling absurdly cheerful. Then a bit of a come-down to realise that the town was in fact only partially ablaze.

But since fires in fireworks factories are hardly ever good news, here's hoping that nobody's been hurt.

West Midlands Ambulance Service says it has 'identified a number of casualties' in a major fire at a fireworks supplier in Stafford.

So far five patients are being treated, but Staffordshire Fire and Rescue has told ITV News it's feared there are more people trapped inside the building on Tilcon Avenue.

Those injured include:

  • Two patients taken to the major trauma centre at University Hospital North Staffordshire. One has burns, the other has smoke inhalation.
  • Two further patients have been discharged on scene.
  • A further patient has minor injuries.

Our reporter Craig Hughes at the scene says five businesses within one unit are affected by this evening's blaze. He has been told that a roof has also collapsed.

What are the other businesses in that block of units?

I'm not completely sure, but there is quite a few units over there - I know Electri-call electrical wholesalers are there, a window company, a car body repair place, and Jewsons, but I'm not sure exactly whereabouts they all are and which would be affected

I think Network Rail may have a section on there as well

Enjoying a drop of red.
I understand that it's SP Fireworks, which I believe is an offshoot of Stafford Plastics - and could be in the unit behind, and joined to, Richard Wright's body shop.

I could well be wrong on all counts, though.
No I think you are right (as you usually are). It's not the units next to Baswich Lane with Electri-call and Parsons Plumbing, but the one behind before you get to RWBS. Though of course the fire may well have impacted on other areas of the estate, beyond merely shutting it down. Let's hope not, anyway.
