Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

I'd say only 1/6 of the shops are empty, sounds about right. The guildhall is more like 1/3 but other areas fare much better.

Hahaha 'morrisons development aside.....'. You cannot just ignore a major development in the town that is a complete fiasco, costing millions of pounds and destroying houses, public toilets, the central clinic and a major car park along the way.

I suppose you would say 'town Centre aside, Stafford is a brilliant place'.
The loss of the car park is regrettable but when the developers purchased it there was a plan. Following the sale, it was private enterprise determining the future of that land, not the council. When we know the commercial details of why that fell through and what is going to happen there, it will be clear. But rest assured there will be a commercial enterprise there - and a car park - whatever it turns out to be.

Am I right in thinking there are retail units in the Guildhall that have never been opened since the day it was built? Somebody suggested that there was the potential for a number of other units but some were boarded up during construction and never let to this day.

I'm not suggesting this is true, simply asking a question.

I thought that the 'Morrisons' site had received planning approval to convert the large store into 3 smaller stores? I thought that B&M were going into one of them, and that one of the stand alone units was going to be a pet shop to rival Pets at Home? Not sure about the others on that site.

Not quite sure what the Council can do, unless they spent our money buying up the empty units and then trying to tempt retailers in. Or do they own property in the town?

re. the empty shop percentage, someone who was actually interested in moving into one a year or so back soon discovered that the council's sums just didn't add up.

I have never claimed that Stafford is the most run down place in the country. I simply pointed out that it is run down which, as I have proved, it is. Stafford is supppsee to be the county town, so it should be the best. But it is not. It is sadly lacking in all areas.

Just because something is the county town doesn't give it a define right to be the best....

A crisis strategy to try and resolve a problem, not a policy decision.

And why does Stafford need yet another B&M store full of crap?

Of course it does, otherwise it has no right to be the county town.

And it is the 'divine' right, not define.

Feck me, I'm getting English lessons from someone who spells suppose as supppsee .....

Hilarious !!!

Just walked through the alleged north end slum that is stafford town centre and I think not even 1/6 are empty. I suspect HopesDad is talking bollox quite frankly when he thinks it is worse than that.

I've tried getting HopesDad to consider a different point of view but it's futile. He either has a chip on his shoulder the size of Stafford itself, or he's just trolling the forum trying to grab attention. Which unfortunately is working...!

How about lightening up a bit?
You are fully entitled to your opinion just as other people are fully entitled to oppose it but wouldn't it be more constructive if it didn't get personal?
Correcting grammatical errors is not an opinion, nor is it personal. He made an error in his use of words, which I corrected. That is all there is to it.
