Bit of a useless bank service then tbh.The counter upstairs in HSBC closes on Friday. Rest remains open but presumably without any counter service.
I used to pay cheques in there for someone else, up to a few years ago. I found the machines downstairs so frustrating that I got them to get an 'old fashioned' paying-in book, which also kept the counterfoils neatly filed in order. The counter upstairs in HSBC closes on Friday. It was the same set up when it was Midland bank , so it hasn't changed then.I used to pay cheques in there for someone else, up to a few years ago. I felt, even then, that they really didn't want people using the counter. It was basically hidden in a secret location, even if you knew that there actually was a counter. There were often bouncers at the bottom of the stairs to try to blag you into using the machines, if you attempted to go up the stairs. I used to have the book in my hand before I entered, to out-manoeuvre them, but they got used to me, eventually.
The counter was downstairs in my Midland Bank days. I was there until October 1982.It was the same set up when it was Midland bank , so it hasn't changed then.
And mine , but changed from them many moons ago as had an argument with them about crap service so closed my account on the spot and got my wages paid in elsewhere instead. Glad I did now as last time I went in to cash a cheque from my building society (stupid system, building society wrote a cheque when wanting to withdraw cash , then cheque had to be taken across Market Square to HSBC to get the cash ) they had right miserable staff on at the 2 counters hidden upstairs. The counter was downstairs in my Midland Bank days. I left when they charged me for being under the new minimum credit limit, without telling me it had changed. And mine , but changed from them many moons ago as had an argument with them about crap service so closed my account on the spot and got my wages paid in elsewhere instead. Been close a while, I thought they were looking for new people to run it, or have they sacked that off now too?Ye old rose and crown, the Jules bar has closed.
I've wandered around town for the first time in nearly a year.
It's not quite as desolate as I was expecting.
Maybe this should be in the other thread?
