There isn't a shops in limbo thread but I asked for an update on an opening date for The Gym Group gym next to TK Maxx and got the following:

Hi there,
Unfortunately, there has been a delay on our new gym openings due to unforeseen circumstances. We currently do not have any opening date that we can announce but if you have registered for updates via the branch website you will be notified 3 weeks in advance to official opening.

Interesting that they think they'll go from unsure they will open at all to fully functional in 3 weeks, you'd think they'd at least confirm that it's coming when work started?

I can only assume that it is equipment delivary issue - and once they know when the kit will arrive they will know they can open 3 weeks from then.

I've seen some comments that the franchise fell through, but the building has been retained to stop another company opening a gym there.

How many gyms are there in Stafford now?

Probably enough, but there arn't that many planned to be open in way walking distance of my house that don't cost a fortune

The place that was selling food that had gone past the best before/use by date? If so hadn't they already converted the stock room into a pet shop.

That’s a very long way of saying “it’s not”

The building is all liveried up for opening and I’ve seen activity there in the past 4 weeks. If they had the green light and kit arrive I don’t think it would take much work.

I didn’t realise it was a franchise based model and can’t find anything on google. I can’t see any reason why a low cost model wouldn’t work given the location. It’s the opposite side of town to PureGym which at peak times is horrendously busy in my experience.

Would be very keen on Gym Group finally opening. I would prefer not to have to drive to the gym and that one is about 5 mins walk away. It’s one less excuse for me to make to not go.

You could run to the gym? Then realise you don't need a gym and keep running!

Agree on walking but strength training only really possible in the gym as lack of space/proper equipment at home.

My knees wouldn't allow me to run but I can still walk several miles on a good day and that's probably just as good as an hour in a gym.

I've been on Glucosamine. Them and moderate exercise meant that my knee replacement was cancelled a few years ago.
