Steve Walsh

A man of many names - Toilet Face, Wolfie, Smiffy, and possibly two more - I'm sure there were five. I remember hearing three people talking about him once, and all three were using different names for him..

He did move down to Cornwall, but I've lost track of him in recent years.

I'm currently leaning on Jamo and Windows to come to the Luck Penny on Friday - both have pleaded health issues - time will tell...

I also remember when we were wiring up some cubicles in the green room and as usual we were missing panels probably out for paint but it wouldnt stop Jamo from assembling them some how, one such cubicle had a fair few relays glass fronted from measurements across the front and being as we didnt have the side panels to bolt the front and back together Jamo had cobbled some wire to keep the front and back panels upright.
The wireman jamo put on the job was Ian Nevay and that morning we were getting the overtime in and we started at 6.00 am.
I was fitting out a cubicle and all of a sudden there was a tremendous bang and crash and i turned around to see Ian standing inside of what was the cubicle he was wiring and for reasons only known to himself had snipped the wires holding up the front panel and as it hit the floor shattered all the relays.
He stood there white as a sheet, and someone piped up jesus Jamos going to do his nut when he gets in. A few mins later ian put his coat on picked up his bag and said to us to tell Jamo im not feeling very well and we never saw him for two weeks.
As you can imagine Jamo wasnt to happy when he came in that morning

In the sheer chaos of the place it was easy to make mistakes - it's only a wonder that more didn't happen.

Andy McB was with Jamo the time that the cone came out and passed between the pair of them - could easily have been fatal. That was down to rubbishy screws.

My favourite, though, remains the time that Chewy fired the bursting disc through the roof during the 'big visit' - it had perfect timing, a tremendous amount of drama, violence, noise and humour - a two-foot diameter hole blasted through the roof and the bits were coming down for quite a while afterwards.

A few sick notes have come in for tomorrow - no Silver Fox, Jamo's still a bit under the weather and Mrs Windows has just come out of hospital - "I've had a clot", she said - I could have told her that twenty years ago.....

Well, the usual suspects turned up - and nobody was able to leave early, as Cyril appeared and so we all had to stay until the whistle, whether we liked it or not - it's all his (ir)responsibility.

About 30 years ago I was hanging onto a scaffold tower cleaning that!

That transformer's been gone for a long time, I think. I would be interested to know from a current inmate when it went - around 2000ish, I would guess.

I well remember one of our itinerant MDs complaining about the state of it and demanding that it be removed, as it could be seen from passing trains. He was rather suspicious of my immediate agreement with his position and my suggestion that we could just pull it down that afternoon. He questioned my sudden (and most unusual) agreement with his stance and I pointed out to him that if we didn't have access to it, we would be unable to make any of our current products and could all "just feck off home to some peace and quiet".

That's why he had you cleaning it. Sorry.

He probably running the Co-op now.

It might be a little before 2000, it was blown away by a storm and was never put back. It was not there in early 2003 and had been missing for several years.

Saw Vic in the town today - as always, we met in the brick circle outside Rymans/Milletts/The Works - he's the same as ever.

One day there will be a plaque there.
