Lights on lichfield rd near aldi again at moment causing massive queues back to town and up the bank. Roadwork cones being set upbetween kent way + Windsor rd
I had the misfortune of being caught up in this today.

Coming from town heading South, the right hand lane - direction Silkmore Lane etc - at the Queensville roundabout had been coned off. There appeared to be no reason for this whatsoever - there was no work/people within this coned off area at all. Worse than that, the area coned off was not visible until many, including me, had turned into the right hand lane at the bottom of the bridge, before realising that one now had to get back into the left hand lane - FOR NO APPARENT REASON - to take the retail park exit.

Luckily, people were being accommodating and letting you back in, but it was too much for me. I'm never driving in Stafford again - how do you people do it?

I walked to Aldi today, came out and there was even more chaos. Some idiotic people queuing at the lights had parked right across the Aldi carpark entrance ,so a big line of traffic coming though the lights the other way were stuck behind all those waiting to turn right into the carpark.

I went earlier today too and people don't leave a space for the entrance to Windsor rd or let people out either.

I went into Stafford yesterday afternoon and managed to avoid the roadworks by Aldi by going down the back lanes, so as yet I haven't visited their new shop.

I drove back from Birmingham yesterday evening. 20 mins from Junc 2 M5 to Junc 13 M6. 40 mins stuck in the traffic jam that was the Wolverhampton Rd. And, the line heading out, lets more cars thru than the one going in.

I never travel to Birmingham in the rush hours if I can help it.

edit. yesterday a lot of trains had been cancelled because of the damage.

The motorways were fine. It was the roadworks on the A449 that I got stuck in. Normally, it takes me 25-30 mins from Woodgate (Birmingham) to home.

I see they have started chucking some tarmac in the various holes Severn Trent have dug all the way down the Tixall Road, so the impromptu chicanes have finally gone

Although the one on the junction of Cull Avenue is still there - makes turning left into it quite entertaining...

Years ago, when all this smoking-in-the-workplace stuff came in, County Treasurers erected a shelter at the back of the members car park for their smokers. And someone had a nice idea of printing the lyrics to Travis' "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" on A3, laminating it, and attaching it to the shelter for those having a fag to read as they sheltered from the rain.

I was just wondering if we should do something similar, namely leave the lyrics to Bernard Cribbins' "Hole in the Ground" pinned to a tree or something next to the various STW holes.

There I was, a-digging this hole
A hole in the ground, so big and sort of round it was
There was I, digging it deep
It was flat at at the bottom and the sides were steep
When along, comes this bloke in a bowler which he lifted and scratched his head
Well we looked down the hole, poor demented soul and he said

Do you mind if I make a suggestion?

Don't dig there, dig it elsewhere
You're digging it round and it ought to be square
The shape of it's wrong, it's much much too long
And you can't put a hole where a hole don't belong

I ask, what a liberty eh
Nearly bashed him right in the bowler

Well there was I, stood in me hole
Shovelling earth for all I was worth
There was him, standing up there
So grand and official with his nose in the air
So I gave him a look sort of sideways and I leaned on my shovel and sighed

Well I lit me a fag and having took a drag I replied

I just couldn't bear, to dig it elsewhere
I'm digging it round 'cos I don't want it square
And if you disagree it don't bother me
That's the place where the hole's gonna be

Well there we were, discussing this hole
A hole in the ground so big and sort of round
Well it's not there now, the ground's all flat
And beneath it is the bloke in the bowler hat.

And that's that!

Just think, if John Lennon had been around today, Stafford would have probably ended up being mentioned in a Beatles song:

"I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Stafford, Staffordshire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall
"

I don't know why they're building the new shopping centre, it'll be half empty like the rest of the town. If you can get to Stafford and park easily then you'll shop there. If you have to queue to get into it and pay you won't.

Now you can say "catch the bus" etc... but we're talking people from outside of Stafford. People from Cannock, Stone, Hednesford and so on.
