Staffordshire CC – Faulty Towers is now sinking?

It has lead to a reduction in staff sickness? Has it also resolved religious disputes around the globe, found a cure for cancer, cleared up his athletes foot and made his wife appear more attractive?

Unless the old building was actively poisoning his staff then I don't see how it can reduce sickness. If he is admitting that the old buildings were actively harming his staff I'd hate to be in his fragile legal position right now.

I got married a month ago at the registry office. The missus was a little upset about all the scaffholding as it meant we couldn't have photos taken outside. Luckily our reception venue was good enough to give us free reign of the building for photos.

Back on subject. Stafford Place really has been a joke. An expensive joke. I walked through yesterday and there is still alot of work to do. The work looks quite major to me, not remedial.

I agree and also it isn't now just about re-sticking the fake marble to the outside - it is about the resultant damage being done to the surroundings of the buildings, namely the paving stones which thanks to the heavy lifting equipment placed on them are now mostly knackered

Of course to just point the finger at Staffordshire County Council is somewhat disingenuous. They did choose the contractor & so are complicit in the mess but lest we forget that the main culprits in this balls up of biblical proportions are the one and only VOLKERFITZPATRICK

If you want to have a laugh, have a look at their description and picture of the build proudly advertised on their website. The reality as we all know is about as far removed from this as it is possible to get

Dear Franklin

I am sure you have not exaggerated for thousands of years, but what exactly is a biblical proportion?

Always good to have a local expert on hand....

It is just a figure of speech. It means a lot, a great amount, a massive quantity, immense sum, enormous profusion, gigantic stack etc – comprendez?

Excellent! Stoford have managed to avoid some of the reality in their pictures, too.

I think this is perhaps worse than the Fitzpatrick one. They must have taken these the moment the scafolding was first removed, just before the fake marble started crashing to the ground & it all had to go back up again.

The lack of remorse shown by both of these companies is breathtaking

Oh, I'm sure he does. Perhaps there has been a great blowing of trumpets in the vicinity, thus causing some of the damage to the wall cladding..? ;)

Honestly, what would be wrong with building a new HQ made of brick? y'know, those things that most houses are made from that are reliable and last for centuries (usually).

Here's a job for the Stafford Lancers who if I remember correctly really upset some residents with their rehersals

Whether it is or it isn’t this whole sorry development has and continues to be a catastrophic disaster. Perhaps this will have taught the County Council a valuable lesson – that going for the cheapest, cowboy build option isn’t necessarily the best policy

Cllr Miilichap is an ex copper and a slightly looney one at that (I remember his unfounded ravings about the apocalypse that was going to result from fortnightly bin collections) which obviously makes him well qualified as a structural engineer....

You mean like the hideous Borough Council building then> It is a grim light soaking dungeon of a building

The Staffordshire Place Panels reflect the light and lift the ambience of the area ( roof aside )

The panels - as previously stated - were badly fixed by a sub contractor of VP and the cost of resticking them is paid for by either VP or the subC

Not a clever start but it does make other modern builds in the town look desperately tacky and cheap

Great thread title. I shall forever call it Faulty Towers from now on.

Walked past Staffordshire Place today and they seem to be digging around the building in some places - not sure why they are doing that. The whole place looks a total disaster - I'm sure that cladding has been off and on at least 3 times and it's still not finished. The digging around parts of the building is a new one though.

I have been in Stafford last week for a short visit.
While there, I had a tour of the new building.
Inside there was a brand new hole in the ceiling with a bin to collect the water.
From what I heard it was not the only hole...
The offices do have a clean look, but why do they have creaky floorboards?
I really did not like the registry office..... The entrance reminded me of our dentist waiting room.
But the building could become nicer, that is if they ever finish it!

I was stood waiting for a lift opposite the building on Friday and saw a wedding coming out and a wedding going in. I can't help thinking how sad it is that the old register office is no longer being used - I thought it was a lovely building. How horrible to get married in that monstrosity of a building now - and the wedding coming out stood outside and posed for pictures with the lovely scaffolding in the background!!
