Staffordshire CC – Faulty Towers is now sinking?

Enjoying a drop of red.
I walked past it this evening and thought there seemed to be even more scaffolding on the place than before, not to mention people digging things up. The place is a total joke now and seemingly things are getting worse!

I haven't seen the digging, but is there any chance they could be replacing all of the paving that's been horribly dirtied and cracked during the cladding works?

If so, surely that could mean that the end is in sight?

I doubt they would be doing that whilst the scaffolding was still up, would they? Would be nice if the end was in site though.

As I say, I haven't seen the digging. If it's not actually next to the scaffold then it's possible they're trying to speed things up.

If it's in the middle between the two buildings, it could be a problem with the rain water storage!

Even sadder to register a death there in an office that is not big enough for two relatives and it has no character. Its cold grey and drab - shame for the lovely person who works there registering the death felt like saying condolences about your office

I was stood waiting for a lift opposite the building on Friday and saw a wedding coming out and a wedding going in. I can't help thinking how sad it is that the old register office is no longer being used - I thought it was a lovely building. How horrible to get married in that monstrosity of a building now - and the wedding coming out stood outside and posed for pictures with the lovely scaffolding in the background!!

Also had a guided tour of the CC Offices. I did like the shower facilities for the employees who cycle to work. I didn't like the wedding chamber. Remembered me more like being a crematorium than somewhere to get married...although there was not enough room to fit a coffin.

Minor detail...we had a guided tour with a group of Germans from Dreieich, one of the twinning towns of Stafford.
Thank god that Basil Fawlty wasn't in... (Don't mention the war!)

A few posts under my belt
A friend visited last week from America, he is a retired Civil Engineer and has project managed multi-billion dollar projects. We took him to see the county buildings for a bit of a laugh, on seeing Stafford's Fawlty Towers he was stunned into silence. After walking a complete circuit of the building, his opinion was that there was poor quality assurance at the design and/or construction stage. He also suspected poor compaction and preparation of the ground because of the uneven and rocking slabs. He was astonished that the building had been completed with all these very visual faults un-addressed, and who on earth signed it off!! In stark contrast we also took him to see Lichfield Cathedral, 800yrs and still standing!
