I cycled through it on the night of the 7th October - and hereby lay claim to the title of the first to do so.Wormella said:I walked through Staffordshire Place on my way to work this morning, it's looking really nice...
I thought i had read about this, and was going to post the same, but looking through the E&S and Newsletter couldn't find the article in question. It is a tad worrying to say the least.big-blue-wolf said:The yellow cladding has had to be rechecked after some fell off and nearly hit passers-by.
The reason I moved to Stafford was due to redundancy. I moved 100 miles to find work. The simple truth is the project cost something like 30 million quid. Therefore 40k really is inconsequential in the big picture. Comparing the cost of a building element to "two years salary" is emotive and frankly over simplifying how things work. It's a one off piece of capital expenditure.big-blue-wolf said:Neither here not there. What a crock.ExiledInStaffers said:Who cares if they did? You may have missed my point. I'm sure the cost quoted by Cllr Harris is correct. But they work as street furniture as well as ram-raid protection. If cost was the only factor then I am sure they could have put those nice concrete barricades that were shoved up in Airports post Glasgow terrorist attack. That would not be aesthetically pleasing though and improve the area. The sums involved - 40K. That barely pays the salary of a single middle manager at the Council.big-blue-wolf said:Have you got any proof that the concrete balls didn't cost £587 each? If so, can we see it please.
If people are genuinely outraged at how much SCC spend on stuff, then really the focus needs to be on the ludicrous expenditure the Chief Executive spends on "Consultants". The very same consultants he often used at Essex. Who provide the same advice again - maybe he should have remembered it first time round. And even then, many departments at SCC are full of over-paid, underworked middle managers. However they can't get rid of them due to the Unions.
So really 40k on some bollards is neither here or there.
£40k is a lot of money for stone balls. And £40k is two years salary for some of us (before being made redundant that is).
At a time when the County Council are putting people out of work, they shouldn't be wasting money on stone balls or as you say, consultants.
Fail by the contractor who built it, shurely?big-blue-wolf said:The yellow cladding has had to be rechecked after some fell off and nearly hit passers-by. The building has had to have fences put all around for safety.
Another #fail by Staffordshire County Council.
Indeed, 'The Green' is now under offer......John Marwood said:Volker Fitzpatrick signed it off in September
Apparently , one good rabbit punch will puncture the panels
I wont be the first to try it
I still think the building is a positive addition to the town, mainly for the light enhancing qualities its make up brings
There are some bargain basement priced commercial property sites in the town now thanks to this
Timing is everything - FAIL

But I know people who are being made redundant by Staffordshire County Council and spending £40k on stone balls isn't going down well with them.ExiledInStaffers said:The reason I moved to Stafford was due to redundancy. Of course but why pass up the opportunity to have a dig at SCCATJ said:Fail by the contractor who built it, shurely?big-blue-wolf said:The yellow cladding has had to be rechecked after some fell off and nearly hit passers-by. The building has had to have fences put all around for safety.
