Even if you live in a bungalow, don't leave the landing light on at night.

You remind me that at South Ruislip in 1946 an aeroplane with ice on its wings crashed into a house but, thanks to the skill of the pilot, essentially landed neatly on the roof. Despite their being five people aboard and a toddler asleep in the top floor of the house no-one was even injured. The crew and passengers simply went down through the loft and came out the front door of the house.

Always used to be a good crop around old sewage works - and fig trees used to flourish along the Tyne, seeds from sewage and water warmed by industry gave an adequate temperature.

Thank God the government insisted on maintaining the flow of raw sewage into the seas. Done us all a favour in these straightened times.
