If you are looking a bit further out of the town centre, you could give The Bell at Haughton a go.... cracking food when I went last Friday night, great choice on there X-mas Fayre menu too, picked one up so I can book a meal with the in-laws (yikes!)

Hi TheCreswellKid, welcome to Stafford Forum. :)

Yes, others have found The Bell at Haughton to be quite nice; have a look at this thread. :)

Bit far for us I'm afraid, need somewhere close by!

Not had a reply yet from the post house, I emailed them on the 26th and also dropped into the office yesterday. They said they'd email me the details over, but nowt yet. Looking like the Swan instead at this rate, or pastiche.
Noticed 2 chefs with a Fresh Food delivery van driver around the back of The Post House this morning. Wearing the chefs uniforms so must have been doing some preparation for an opening very soon.

I remember the excitement when the fish fingers first appeared in our kitchen. We gathered round the grill to look at them and had no idea how to tell when they were cooked. I actually thought that was when they were introduced in Britain. Evidently not.
OMG Flossie! Are you one of my sisters by any chance? We did exactly the same lmaoo x

Just click the Search link in the yellow navigation bar at the top of your screen, and you can search for any word you like (e.g. indian, curry, takeaway, restaurant, etc.). :)

Opens on the 8th apparently, so bit early for fresh food? Mind you I assume they'll do a few test runs before starting on the public!

There's an invite-only opening on the 6th, but that's still too early for fresh food. Most likely for staff training.

I suggest you go the spoons and get completely winkered on cheap booze. It seems to be "de rigeur" for a works Xmasbash

Van outside had 'Fresh Food' on the side and the chefs & delivery bloke had their pens & paper out, either ordering or checking a delivery.

Noticed one of the first things they got inside when I glanced in last week was the Christmas trees! :)

Went to pastiche again this year with work. Have to say I was rather disappointed. We had to pre order from the chrimbo menu which was fine (even though I always want something different on the night!). We were told to be seated by 7 to be served starters at 7:15. All of our party were there by 7. Our starters came out at 7:45 pm :(

Food was lukewarm or cold, pretty tasteless, even left half of the pudding. It sounds a bit harsh but I had really been looking forward to that meal and was left really disappointed. Will be suggesting somewhere else for next year I think :(

Sounds about par for the Pastiche course.

We went to The Village at Junction 10 (oh the joys of working on an industrial estate near Walsall) and it was a decent meal, not superb but for £13 I couldn't complain.

For my work's Christmas meal we are given £15 to spend on a meal we can arrange with colleagues. Nothing is formally is arranged (which for such a large organisation is little dissappointing). 12 of us from the Wolverhampton office decided to go to the Fox and Anchor in Coven for lunch pre-ordering from their festive menu. The food was ok except the christmas pudding, which fortunately I didn't order but everyone else said was rock solid and very heavy, but for both the starters and the desserts they didn't bring out everyone's meals at the same time so people were left waiting. Overall it was ok for £16.95 a head but nothing special and I was a little dissappointed seeing as we go there regularly for a drink and it's usually lovely

In contrast my husband's work meal was a fully laid on affair at The Barns in Cannock. The company organised several minibuses and a coach to take people from Stafford, provided people with drinks vouchers all night meaning it was effectively a free bar, there were canapes and a full 3 course meal. The food was delicious, they were very generous with the portions and the service was great. I'd not been there before so didn't really know what to expect but it was great and I would definitely look forward to a return trip

I went to the Shropshire Inn at Haughton for our Christmas lunchtime bash. Had a lovely 3 course christmas meal for £17. Salmon and prawn starter was to die for! So much duck left on my plate that they bagged it up for me for my dog. Lovely decorations and attentive staff. Generous portion of pear crumble with custard. Delicious. Staff coped really well especially as there was over 40 of us. We did pre order.

I wonder if boredom sets in at kitchens during the festive season with churning out the christmas fayre on an industrial scale. You would think that managers/owners would realise that many of the customers would be new to their venue and would come to an opionon based on their experiences and quality of the food.
My wife went with her work collegues to the barley mow at milford a couple of saturdays ago and were very dissapointed with the food and the service. You could put it down to it being busy but it puts you off going their again.
