Ideal tbh, as it means you generate a little better in the afternoons than morning which fits your usage pattern.

8 panels should pull in up to about 25kWh in summer, in winter you can generate less than 1kWh on a bad day though so you'll still be using the grid in winter.

I need to get back into the flow of things and get some solar quotes as I've still not done anything on the 2+ years since the last one. I know things have gotten cheaper, if you have solar can you remind me who installed it for you and if they were any good. Cheers

Well i asked for 3 quotes and got 3....

PanelsPanels TotalInverterBatteryTotal
Staffordshire Solar8x460w3.68kw3.6kw5.2kwh£9,500.00
Solar Star Power8x460w3.68kw3.76kw5.75kwh£8,145.24
NPE Solar8x500w4.00kw3.7kw5.18kwh£7,322.00

Solar Star just replied with a cost whereas the other 2 provided a full quote document. NPE Solar noticed that my house is 3 storey and said the quote didn't include scaffolding as the contractor would have to do a survey 🤷‍♂ but on the other hand they can install 500w panels.

If anything its made me more indecisive !!!

Scaffolding is several hundred quid so bear that in mind. Also if your inverter is only 3.6 that's from batteries too, so if cooker is on and you boil a kettle you use the grid. For the sake of £100 more I'd get a bigger inverter, but lots of firms try to avoid installing bigger as they need to do more paperwork.

I take it 8 panels is your max for your roof size?

I think 8 is the max and if it's not that it will be 9. Thanks for the inverter info

They must use a lot of power, surprised they didn't invest sooner.

Most people in the gym don’t realise that the treadmills they use generates power for the showers and that Chlorine in the pool is related to the lifeguards Maureen and Doreen

Don't know if any use to people here but eon just dropped the standing charge by 10p on the EV tariff. I only looked last week and wasn't worth bothering but this locks my prices in for another year. You don't need an EV, and they're happy to let you fill your batteries on the cheap rate so I'm currently on less than 1% peak rate electricity and only 6.7p off peak.

I have a referral code is any use, both get £50 bill credit, shout if useful.
