That Game Where They Kick the Ball.

I love club football but I really don't care about international. Thought I should shut the laptop and put it on though.

Being clueless about something is not ever something to be ashamed of.

But nor is it ever something to be worn as a badge of honour.

People like things, and liking things is always and everywhere to be encouraged.

Unless, of course, those things are incest and/or country dancing.

Gary Neville was interestingly candid about this earlier this evening - re. the difference between him and Southgate - he said that he adored his club, and loved playing for his country, whereas Southgate loved his club but adored playing for his country. That's why he felt that Southgate would prefer to stay within the England set-up rather than go back to a Premiership managerial role if one were offered.

The people who dip in when the Tournament is in full swing might not understand at all why someone might put their club above their Country, but it makes perfect sense to the rest of us.

Talking of Neville, did you listen to his View from the Boundary interview i linked to a bit ago? Properly good listening that.

It's amazing how few people get this, but you're right it's generally from people who only dip in at tournament times.

I also support a team where my players have always been scapegoats (and worse) for any England defeat.

Don't have any real interest in football and don't support a 'regular' team but I do like to watch England play.
You can imagine the disappointment in my life.

I was mad on football in my teens, went to matches. Then the culture and fans put me off so it was largely ignored for many years, until I decided to start having a passing interest again 5 or so years ago.

This is hardly an original observation but what really makes a difference is having an England team now that I actually like and one that pisses of the right kind of people with their taking the knee and whatnot. People can complain about it having nothing to do with football it's absolutely relevant to the game so long as the racist and homophobic chants/abuse continue to emanate from the stands towards players. I'm glad to hear the boos being drowned out by cheers in recent games.

Now if only we could win a big match without disgracing ourselves on the streets afterwards!

If the after results of last nights match are owt go by, they can stuff the cup where the sun don't shine. A large group of blokes, and a sprinkling of girls, heading towards town. all sounding like they were drunk as skunks. Singing their heads off '' It's comin' 'ome!!''
Then one by one, wheelie bins were turned over, what sounded like glass smashing, the cones in the road getting chucked about.
If it's coming home, then it needs go back where it came from.

I sympathise with you there @Glam, no need for it.

Our neighbours across the way could hear the cheering at The Cock last night but we heard nothing, strange we're only 40 metres or so away from them.

Latest is that there is a petition with huge amounts of support calling for a bank holiday on 12th July if England do win the... cup/prize/thingumabob.

If people feel that stupidly overpaid, hair-band wearing drama queens kicking pigskin well merits a day off work, then I'd like to suggest an alternative.

Anyone that couldn't give a flying f*ck about the football and who goes to work (if this bank holiday does get called) should be on 10 x daily rate, coming from the salaries of the lazy sods who want to use wendyball success as a justification for working less.

The Twelfth of July would be a convenient date for a flag-waving festival in some areas.

Won't happen for me because I work for the NHS. But lovely idea.

I doubt Johnson could manage this overnight, even if he rolled both sleeves up and stuck both thumbs in the air at once.

Anyone else watching?

I know nothing about football but it's on in the background just incase we win!!
I like major championships but only for the obscure matchups...I don't like the England games mainly for the knobbish fickle fans...

Much prefer Aussie Rules Football....
