Today I noticed that my local supermarket had yet again 'Priced matched Aldi'....so that meant that the supermarket that people think is expensive....had increased the price of their basic cheese by yet another 38p this week.

Don't be fooled by supermarkets price matching Aldi or Lidl, they were actually cheaper than Aldi & Lidl to start with!

I was in Sainsburys this morning, there's a lot of basic things shot up in price. I used pay 55p for a bag of pasta shapes, that's almost a quid now. There's other stuff, but we do eat a lot of pasta here, so you notice things.
Personally, I prefer Sainsburys to Lidl or Aldi, staff are much pleasant, Unless it's Nat in Lidl, she's lovely.

That's the whole thing, people thought Sainsbury's was an expensive place to shop but it really wasn't, untill they price matched Aldi'.

I prefer Sainsbury's quality & I'm too lazy to go shop somewhere else when I'm already there most days.

It's dissapointment that the prices are rising so fast....before Christmas my regular mature cheese, 400g was £2.50, it's now £3.40! That's a massive jump in price.

Last week we bought the *basic mature cheese, Mary annes I think, but it's gone up by 38p this week. Cheaper to buy a £2.50 wedge of stilton!

I'm not bothering again, it's cheaper yes and has a nice taste if you're just having it in a cheese sandwich, but if you grill/melt/cook it, then there's no taste

I've actually been having walks to a nearby M&S for months to buy their eggs. 6 'mixed free range 'for £1 and been the size of Aldi large ones each time and cheaper. They stick them right on the bottom shelf though , so hard to spot if only a few left further back. I'm quite often crawling on the floor to reach them (When there was an egg shortage and panic buying with empty shelves in Tesco & Aldi , there were plenty in Marks. People must automatically assume they are all going to be more expensive there)

Is it wrong that I never go near M&S? I've been in the new Stafford branch once. That was for a dress I needed for a wedding. Everything looked like it was meant for a teenager, of which I most certainly am not. So I just walked out.

I never went in M&S for food in Stafford , just used to go to their loos after walking to town.
Go in this retail park M&S foodhall here as it's only about a mile walk back , so I make the 2 retail parks towards end of my walking route , nip in Next or Dunelm to use their loos and a quick mooch around the shops en-route (Notice my walk is planned around loo stops 😂 ) and the eggs aren't heavy to carry back. I stand googling the price of veg and salad stuff elsewhere and sometimes that is the same price or cheaper for better looking stuff.

Got a Lidl and Sainsburys even closer to home over the road from there as well. I nip in them all on the way if going for a few bits and pieces , make a note of what are the better buys , and then shop for the best buys in each one on the way back.

As my gran used to say "Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves" and that's always stuck in my head.

We are coming up to the season when companies report their financial results. I guarantee the news is going to be record profits all round. Fair enough energy prices have increased costs but not relative to how much things have gone up. Costs 10% more to produce a can of beans?. Just increase the price 25% and blame energy prices!. The MD of Tesco said as much. They have had teams of people reverse engineering products & he confirmed that cost increases have been disproportionate.

It's not just supermarkets....

I'm think our gas has cost us £30 more than usual this month. We usually pay £70.00 on a prepayment meter (it came with the house), just over £100 this month & we've not had it on more than usual.

Is there a way you can switch this out? Prepayment meters make me so angry.

Yes! I'm no M & S typical customer but each time I go I'm impressed by the food, they do great vegan naans for example at a good price, you can taste the quality imo, and their clothes always catch my eye even after I've convinced myself I'm not their type of customer. I'm not, I'm not middle class or a Tory voter, but I always see summat the I like!

Aldi have got a few nice vegan ready meals at the moment too.

Enjoying a drop of red.
I have them occasionally if I can't be bothered to cook and they're ok for what they are.

Also wouldn't you need a pint of real ale with it, no loo roll in your bathroom and six piss heads sitting around your dining table to get the authentic Spoons feeling? 😂
Not to mention sticky floor coverings.

I'm sure that could be arranged.
