The Post House, Stafford

Thank you for such diverse feedback. It's great to get such a broad range of opinions and thoughts on value. A lot of the artwork is provided 3rd party by promoters themselves. However this doesn't excuse the mistakes. We can always count on you guys for your help.

The free copy writing service is always appreciated and perhaps this should become a designated thread in the forum. What do you think Admin ?

We are launching a new website soon and wondered if any of you would like to proof read this for us in your spare time. I'm sure we can sort a few free coffees or drinks as a way to say thank you.

I took my dad to TPH for steak night last week. It was my dad's first visit as he doesn't live round here and he was mightily impressed.

We both had rib eye, cooked rare, and it was one of the nicest steaks I've had. My dad eats in lots of posh restaurants where he lives and wasn't expecting a '2-for-£26 including a bottle of wine' deal to be that great. He said it was on a par with some of the best places he's eaten! Even the house Merlot was nice.

Our only criticism was the bread & olive oil we were given to begin with. The little baguettes were very hard and the olive oil wasn't very tasty at all. A fruity, peppery oil would have been much more pleasant than the bland oil we got. Other than that, very good indeed.

Glam knows the way to my heart!

I will very happily proof read for you. Biscuits suitable for spaniels are sufficient reward.

With happy dogs and apostrophes in their rightful place all is right in my world.

grocer's [sic] apostrophe's [sic] aside, i'm gonna check out the mexican night for my upcoming birthday, i reckons - it sounds "totes amazeballs", as i believe the yoof say these days - so i shall report back :chef:

andreas rex went to the post house recently, and took his dad who was visiting from london.. aforementioned dad is used to frequenting michelin starred restaurants daaaaaarn saaaaarf (gordon ramsey, et al), and said that his meal was easily on par with them, so i certainly have high hopes!

edit: aaaaand just as i made this post, i see that andreas has come along to post his experience himself, thus making my above post seem a bit vague and bizarre, so i have changed "a friend of mine" to "andreas rex" to make it clearer :P

The waitress told me the beef is from M Mottershead on Bodmin Ave, so it's no surprise it was such good quality. That was my local butcher when I was growing up...it was Pete & Dee Cullen at that time, but I'm pretty sure Martin (?) Mottershead was Pete's long-term apprentice.

ah - i'm popping in there later this week, so i might ask them if that is indeed the case.. an excellent butcher (hence why i traipse all the way across to the other side of town to go to it)! :pig:

Has anyone else noticed The Post House is starting to resemble an up market Spoons from the outside with all of the tacky 2 for 1, steak night, etc, etc offer banners?

I'm sure it's not necessary to have such blatent advertising for an establishment such as this, is it?

make your mind up! first the post house gets grief for being too aloof and "high & mighty," and now they try and introduce some deals for the average chap about town they get it in the neck for that lol..

i personally think that they seem to have weathered a fairly rocky start pretty well, have dealt with some pretty bad press and troubling staff teething problems, but now seem to be approaching a happy balance twixt "up market" and "accessible for all".. i look forward to trying their mexican night in a couple of weeks, as well as their steak night (as per andreas' glowing report) :)

of course, if they turn out to be shit, i reserve the right to completely about turn in this opinion and slag them off relentlessly :teef:

Enjoying a drop of red.

I don't think the average man about town would be blowing that much on a bottle of Vodka should he?

I'm not slagging the place off, just commenting about some of the marketing literature thay have posted on here. Tis all.

i was referring thehooperman's post regarding 2for1 deals, steak nights, etc.. i agree that the hed kandi thing is a shambles, but then again i dare say we're not the target marget there, so it's largely moot - i can't see us enjoying a quad vod at a foam party MCed by joey essex, but that sort of thing seems to go down a storm at the colosseum!

I wasn't criticising the offers I was criticising the tacky banners outside that make it look like a Spoons.

My husband went out last night with a friend, for a few quiet beers in town, after a couple elsewhere decided to head to The Post House for a couple of drinks but were very rudely refused entry to the premises unless they paid a £12 charge on the door for a club night. What a ridiculous way to treat customers, I think a huge mistake could have been made last night in alienating a lot of people who regularly use the place. Between the poorest ever excuse for customer service displayed former cocktail staff and the way my husband and his friend were spoken to last night by door staff The Post House is far from being a welcoming place.

To be fair to TPH it was a special occasion night with HedKandi( yes I know over my head too) and it has been well published for a while

Regardless of reasons they just lost a customer, a more polite guerrilla would have explained the situation.

yeah, as andy pointed out it was a hed kandi night, which is a pretty big deal (for the kids) and i am quite impressed that the post house managed to bring such a big name to little ol' stafford..

i think it's important to remember that the post house is trying to do something a bit different with nights like this - i.e. bring a vibrant, modern club to stafford.. it's not my cup of tea now i'm a bit older, but when i was in my twenties i would have jumped at the chance to go to hed kandi (indeed, i did, often travelling all the way to birmingham/manchester/sheffield/etc. to do exactly that) so the fact that such a big name club night, which travels all around the world and is a hugely successful brand, is in stafford quite frankly amazes me..

such big name club nights are, rightly or wrongly, quite "exclusive" and will very often refuse people just because they are not the right sort - i.e. not fashionable/trendy/beautiful/etc. enough.. you might disagree with this (i would certainly fall into the "not trendy enough" category!), but the myriad youngsters inside having a great time exchanging bodily fluids and climbing the walls off their tits on cake love it, as it lends an air of exclusivity to the place and means they don't have "dads" cluttering up the area and moaning about the loud music while supping on their pints of mild..

if i wanted a posh meal, i wouldn't go to mcdonald's then complain that the service felt very rushed and the food was bland and generic.. likewise, if i was about town on a saturday night, i wouldn't go to the post house.. this isn't a criticism - just that i know it's not my sort of place during the night (i.e. i don't want to pay to get in somewhere, loud music, etc.) so i wouldn't go..

i do, however, plan on going to the mexican night for my birthday (expect a phone call today, mr. post house ;)) and can't wait to treat my ol' dears to the steak night as well..

basically, the post house are trying to strike a balance between providing a welcoming, accessible venue during the day and most evenings, whilst still putting on exclusive and more discerning events over the weekend.. more power to 'em, i say.. as i say, all this loud music, drinking liquid nitrogen, snorting plant food, etc. is a bit beyond me now, but the rest of it sounds quite appealing :)
