The Ship Aground Micropub.

They don't take cash? The floodgate used to be the opposite, unfortunately meant many times I left when I fancied one last pint but couldn't be bothered to walk to the cashpoint and back.

That said though card only just seems odd.

I still miss the floodgate. I used to walk passed the floodgate to go to RBS cash machine and then walk back to the floodgate where I would remain for most of the night.

I love micropubs and really want this place to do well, however when I visited I was disappointed by the decor and the general feel of the place. Hence why I've not rushed back.

I don't mind paying £5-£10 for a decent / quality pint so that didn't put me off when i went but i suspect many other people would be.
Same here. The selection of craft beer and music is great. They could probably do with an additional cask ale (two light, one dark) and a few more ciders. For a pub that has a vaguely nautical theme (a ship on a shelf) it has a limited selection of rum.

The issue for me is still the lacklustre decor and uncomfortable furniture. Some of the paintwork has been scraped off the walls by the chairs and some of the chairs are falling to bits. A visiting friend said that the decor reminded them of student digs. I suspect the choice of furniture is due to financial constraints but having upholstered side seating would utilise the space available and make the pub more comfortable for an extended visit (similar to the layout in the Whippet in Lichfield).

I hope they can secure the funding to re-open, but they need to reflect on their customer experience beforehand.

The Victory in Hereford has taken the 'ship aground' to the next level:

Then not far away is the Cursed Galleon in the Trip.

Even the Floodgate had a little boat hanging from the ceiling.

Yes.

I popped in to his shop on the way back from the opticians today. 3 craft cans for £13, good value I thought.

Yes, it is another of his companies.
My understanding is that Jack is taking the Ship Aground over, which is good news.

The Devil’s Taphouse has a decent selection of beers and spirits but it doesn’t have the same character as the Floodgate used to have and the bar stools are uncomfortable to sit on, which usually means a short visit before moving on elsewhere.

I visited the Mean-Eyed Cat and Tipsy Toad in Newcastle-upon-Tyne recently. They had a great selection of cask and keg beers, ciders and spirits.

Although never could have been termed a 'regular' at the Floodgate I occasionally called in for a quick one or two after work and tried to fit in a visit if in Stafford at a weekend. Having tried the Taphouse a couple of times it definitely has lost that indefinable something.
