That the Haughton folk have put on a pretty spectacular Christmas lights show this year. We'll done all concerned.
Where I am, the previous, rather delicate, lights were strung zig-zagging across the road. this gave some issues about accessing the bulbs above the traffic zone - hence the odd gaps.

After 25 years of service, it was decided to replace the whole thing and run the new lights along the sides of the road. However, the new light strings are, to my eyes, a little on the bright side.

The picture doesn't really did it justice. The effect is like being in Las Vegas during a nuclear attack.

I have refrained from any criticism as, during the switch-on, there was a security issue...

Not bothering with a tree or any decorations this year. We're up Norf now for a few days for the United and West Ham matches, then off to the deep south at sparrows on Thursday for Christmas and New Year. I am reliably informed by both my parents and the outlaws, who drove down to the deep south last weekend, that the appropriate decorations are now up down there.

... that the feral Christmas tree has appeared.

Although it's not very clear in this daylight picture, I have managed to trick the lights into coming on, by covering the charging panel and the light sensor. You might just spot the odd glimmer in the darker areas.

I did wave to you on Sunday from the United end but couldn't see you waving back.

It seemed very quiet down your end 🤣🤣🤣

... the reality of something that has (very slightly) concerned me for about five years.

Walking back from the town pub at night, there is a point where I can see across the river valley and fields to a small village a couple of miles away. There are a few sodium street lights there, but, there is also a red light amongst them - proper red, not just a lamp warming up.

I know a few people from there, but I never think to ask them - then I see it again on the next walk home. It is not quite 'square' to the road, so I don't see it on the way in, only on the way back.

Suddenly today, for no particular reason, I had a revelation and checked it via Google Maps. There is a radio mast at the station, about two miles further on, but it is on line with my sight-line, as I look at the village. I assume that it is the marker light on top of that, but I haven't been along that road in the dark for about fifteen years - I must check one day.

This would explain why I first noticed it when I did and not for the many walks back before that...

( As they sat on waiting to go off on their day trip, was wondering if anyone recognised me as the lady they'd seen millions of times power walking up Radford Bank 😂)
