Today I saw...

... the chap who's been steadily excavating a trench along the edge of the gravel drive.

It's been going on for weeks, slowly being extended away from the house - quite neatly and methodically done. He's probably done about twelve feet now, over a month or so.

I had various potential suspects - the crows, a fox who passes through occasionally, even the hedgehog.

The drive was whacked in hard and the stones don't come out easily, so I was a bit surprised to see who it was, finally.

I'll leave him to it for now, he's doing a fairly neat job, leaving the stones where they can be brushed back in eventually and even pulling weeds out for me.

I imagine that he's found that it's a hidey-hole for tasty morsels, slugs, and even snails, as there are some shell fragments about the area, but that could be the (other) thrushes, of course.
I hope he manages keep out the way of the resident Puss Cat.

An email in my junk box just.....supposedly from ' a hotel ' we stayed in the other week, ( but email address from a Josh someone and hotel not named ) & paid balance on arrival. All confirmed on bank statement as paid...

'There's been a problem with your payment, please provide bank details , cvc , name , address etc to pay '....

Do people really fall for these scams???

( obviously know they do after my late parents being done out of £10,000 , even sending fake coppers to their door for their cards after confirming bank passwords etc over phone call from supposedly fraud squad).

Please warn any trusting parents/ relatives/ friends not to fill foul of these scum!

Scary thing is they quoted the dates we actually booked so picked up online. So house could be empty on those dates so possible target for house burglary as well ???( although I pack everything but the kitchen sink , so not much left in the house to nick 😂)

A mate had a crash recently, lots of messing about that resulted in the other insurance company providing a different rental car a week after the accident. He then received calls from a solicitors about his accident promising payouts but stating the date he got the new car and ringing a number he'd never provided originally. Looks like Enterprise had passed his data onto some ambulance chasers, currently a GDPR issue being pursued.

... actually it was yesterday, but a Red Kite, in Gnosall.

I mean it was definitely a Kite - i obviously assumed it was a Buzzard at first, but it really was a Kite.

Since when has this been going on?
Been Red Kites over Croxton/Offley Brook for past 10-15yrs. Possibility that some have migrated over doesn't seem impossible.

Red Kites spread into Staffordshire a number of years ago and are even seen over Stafford town centre occasionally. As you mention, they are often overlooked, as are a number of other birds of prey, e.g. there have even been White-Tailed Eagles spotted over Stafford in the last few years.

Peregrine Falcolns frequent both the BT choc bar building and St Mary’s Church, apparently. Or maybe it’s the same pair

It's the same pair - they nest on the choc bar then the chicks fledge out to St Mary's whilst they're flying but still being fed by the parents.

It's just so lovely to watch it happening every year in our backyard.

I was late reading last Sundays Newspaper but had a quick look today.

There was an article about the Top 50 Haunted Places in Britain, and Cannock Chase was up there in the top 10.
