Nice work Admin!! I'm not in the position to do so at the moment, but I'd possibly be interested in sponsoring an advert in the future with a "forum approved" stamp on the banner or something similar if possible?
You'll have to let me know via PM if this would be possible, and what kind of charges this would be.

On another note, the few days was worth the wait and I hope that your "real world" situation is now sorted out. :up:

I'm (mostly) using an iPad to access the forum and the new style looks beautiful. Text size and page widths are fine. I particularly like the shading & presentation of quotes - much better than the previous 'nested brackets'. Keep up the good work.

This is great to hear! I am not fancy/rich enough to have an iPad to test The Forum on, so it's good to know that it looks good on it. :)

iPad 1, so not so fancy or rich. However I also have acces to a desktop, Laptop and net book and the iPad really make all the others (almost) redundant. With iCloud and Dropbox storage & backup the absence of a disk drive is hardly noticeable. Oh, and I can also talk to my iPad using an App called Dragon.
If there are enough other Forumites out there of a like mind I would be prepared to contribute to a 'Buy Admin an iPad ' fund so we could have access to you 24/24. This is a serious offer.

Well, exactly. I am of the same mind, to be honest. Another motivation for the Forum upgrade was that I wanted to make sure it would be compatible with the new generation of iPads/tablets, which is clearly the way casual/social computing is headed.

I can't tell if you are being serious or not :lorks: If you are, I can assure you that any donations I do get (once the donation system is implemented) will be ploughed straight back into The Forum. :)

Using an Ipad2 here. site works well. Only advert is slightly too big on the screen as it covers small part of the site.
At a later date (after the far more important stuff!) it would be nice to see a web clip icon for the forum.
Then you would get an icon on the ipad when making a shortcut to the site, instead of a miniture pic of the site.
But again, that a "nice-to-have" and NOT a need-to-have!
Hopefully the makers of the forum software will add this feature later. As more and more people are using the internet "Mobile"

Btw the "fav-icon" on my PC is working well.

I don't even know what a web clip icon is; first time I've ever heard of one! I'll defo look into it, because as I say I want to make sure it is bang up to date with all the latest devices.

The current favicon doesn't see to work on Firefox for me. I have no idea why, and it works fine on Chrome and IE, so I've put it on the back-burner for the time being.

Not at all "Blackberry" friendly I'm affraid. I hoped to see the new forum auto-generate mobile pages for mobile viewers but it doesn't seem to be the case. Still... we can't have it all! ;)

blackberries seem to render websites a little different, just the same way the way they use bluetooth is different

As if RIM will be around in 5 years time anyway... ;)

The next iteration of the software platform The Forum runs on is supposed to be "mobile compatible", so fingers crossed your wish will be granted before too long.

A web clip icon is the favicon for the mobile devices.
You can go all fancy and make several sizes of images,
but I did it myself on my own site and used only a single picture.
You can always make it more fancy afterwards...

These are the steps I did:
1 - Make picture with *.png extension, max. size 72 x 72 pixels, and call it "apple-touch-icon.png"
(Picture can be square, the fancy corners and shine is done by IOS)
2 - Put the file in the folder (for example) "root/images"
3 - Find your index.htm or index.php file and find where it says
<HEAD>
........
</HEAD>
4- Add between those two points the following: "<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/images/apple-touch-icon.png" />"

Several manuals for this can be found on the Internet.

Something to put on the bottom of your ever increasing to do list :lorks:
