I was made to watch this at school (by a well known PE teacher) in PHSE. It was mid nineties, when the Gulf was kicking off again. It took about 6 weeks to get through it and I had nightmares for 6 months afterwards. Even now I can see parts of it and have to try and get it out of my mind.

I spent a good bit of my youth seeing the occasional transport go by, with real or practice nuclear weapons on. You never really knew when it was a real one, but people did seem a bit more professional sometimes.

I always felt more at risk from British and US ones in the locality, than the Russian variety with a long, arduous journey to make.

I felt fairly confident that a lot wouldn't get to the target and actually go off. Getting out of the silo, having been there for years, flying all the way, actually to the target point, and then functioning correctly, always seemed an unlikely sequence to complete satisfactorily...

I was always comforted, during the M.A.D. years, that our proximity to RAF Stafford meant that we were always likely to have a warhead or two with our name on it honing in on us in that first wave.

Better to get it over with early doors, what?

Tonight was Strictly and The Wheel, accompanied by our customary Saturday Night Buffet.

But we did discover on Channel ITV 1 Ramesh Ranganathans Comedy Gameshow which we thoroughly enjoyed.

For us, if we’re not out doing something, then we like to get into our pyjamas early, eat picky bits for tea, snuggle down and watch easy TV. Nothing complicated, easy does it.

We’re currently watching The Diplomat Season 2.

Then we shall also be watching The Day Of The Jackal when we can binge watch it.
