My partner bought an ix20 automatic from SR about 4 months ago, she's very happy with it and reckons its one of the best cars she's ever driven.

A friend of mine had an i20 as a hire car when she was on holiday. She was very impressed as has looked at them with a view to buying. She drives an Audi TT at the moment so it must have been good.

I mmmed and aahed about the i20 instead of the current Getz. I'd had an i20 for a day every now and then, but still preferred the Getz, really - the Morris Traveller for the 21st century.

One of the most impressive features of the Getz is the footwells - for a car with such a short 'nose', there is almost no wheel-arch intrusion - looked at from outside one might imagine that it would be necessary to sit side-saddle..

Rule of thumb - avoid anything american or european.

Pretty much any japanese car will do - the yaris is definitely a good choice. My uncle has had an X reg one from new and he's never complained about it once. Still runs it today.

If you want something a little more comfortable then the I30 would be well worth looking at and as previously mentioned comes with a staggering warranty.

The new velostar looks pretty funky too.

As others have said your mileage means petrol only. Although diesel has very little going for it anyway for anyone who has any life left in them yet / isn't henryscat.

I don't think the Veloster is really a 'basil car'....

..and it only comes in three-door form.

The i30 is probably the car to lust after, particularly the estate..?

Careful henryscat doesn't report you for being a child killer with those kind of speeds. Holy moley!

Thoughts on VW Beetles please, oh seems to think I should trade in my battered Corsa for one, but I think its a bit of a hairdressers car and would prefer a Focus or Fiesta ?

It'll be a better drive than a corsa as it's a bit larger (based on the golf chassis I believe) but other than that I don't know. They're made by VW so one imagines they'll be refined and nice to drive.

depending on which model the focus is nice - the best are the mk1 and the worse is the current one (I have one of the current ones and it's diabolical compared to the first ones but still not a bad car as such).

a lot depends on age of car you want, budget and usage. details, details!

A Fiesta or Focus will be a MUCH better drive than a Beetle.

VWs built in the last 10 years or so have a reputation for a variety of electrical and mechanical (coil pack related and emissions related) issues which would push me towards choosing a Ford instead.
