2 years ago golf course development was de rigeur, however such activites can fall out of fashion with a blink.... leaving some bunkered (golfing talk) the current situ is dormant and is unlikely to be rescued.........

Translation - golf club expansion is no longer going ahead due to credit crunch? Anywhere near the mark?

I think Lucy might have something to say on this... *ducks behind the sofa peeking out to see fireworks*

If anything progress seems to be moving over the last few weeks. The communications we have from the owners are positive, so it'd be interesting to know where you heard this Basil? Moneywise, no member has 'invested', we simply pay our fees each year to play on the course. As per one of my previous posts, I no longer have such a vested interest, I'm not an officer of the club anymore, and we're no longer owned by ourselves. However, I've always played my golf there, I've grown up with the club as I even had my christening party there, so I have an emotional attachment. Plus, I'm currently organising scratch matches this year, and we want to win the league again!

So, what's going on in the fields next to the castle, then?

I can't say that i've seen a ramping up of work on the site, though haven't been up that frequently, but i'm not sure it has stopped completely.

Any chance of some clarification? Or has basil said too much already, and is currently being bundled into the back of a van to be sent to Coventry (for a connecting flight to Goa)?

I think we should be told.

Well, i was up there today. Four smallish machines on site, none moving but then it is the weekend.

Not being any kind of an expert in this field (i wonder if this sort of thing is covered on a Golf Course Management degree course?), they don't appear to have accomplished a great deal since work started, but what do i know?

The thot plickens.

At present the work involves landfill and the owners obviously get paid by companies and individuals for dumping their waste on the site. Therefore, its in Luddington's interest to keep receiving waste and create the bund next to the motorway. Once the bund is complete, the actual work of building the course will begin, paid for by the money recieved from the landfill. Therefore, at present, the work is governed by how much waste is generated elsewhere on building sites etc. The cynics amongst us are obviously keeping an eye on when the landfill finishes and the big earth movers move in as this is when the owners have to start shelling out.

Well there was work going on there today - lorry loads of stuff being dropped off and a bulldozer moving it around. Not a major hive of activity but no standstill either.

And i saw a pair of bullfinches and a nuthatch. :)

They weren't working on the golf course though.

Thinking about it logically, despite being squashed n squeezed and generally monkeyed around with, the only vantage point that could possibly afford such a view would be the high-rise on Highfields wouldn't it? What's that called by the way?

You still couldn't get all of that in - though St Mary's is noticeably absent - could you?

It is certainly a puzzling picture. It took quite a while to be sure it was actually Stafford - Pennycroft the only certainty.*

Good find Mr. Marwood.
