Where did you all go on your jolly holidays?

First holiday abroad was at Palma Nova as a !8 year old back in 1985. Our hotel/apartments had a big pool area, thatched bar and big palm trees. Used to have disco nights up to 12 o'clock, felt like Club Tropicanna.
Palma Nova had a couple of lively bars back then but was a lot quieter than neighbouring Magaluf.
We are right on the border of Magaluf and Palma Nova. Supposed to be a family hotel with no stags & hen groups. Up until today there have been as few considerate and well behaved groups ....today it's full of large rowdy groups and more like an 18-30's hotel at the moment !

Take all your holiday money in euros with you, if the economy crashes you probably won't be able to use your cards including cash point.

Going here http://www.portoskala.com/home.htm got a balcony room with sea views.

Went to Kos the year before last. Old town is nice, new town definitely aimed at the younger holidaymaker. Found some decent eateries whilst we were there.
Handy for a day trip across the bay to Turkey (Bodrum)
Kefalonia, eh? Excellent. We usually go to Fiskardo - about 2 hours drive away from where you'll be, or 3 as the main road near Assos is still down.

We were wondering about Ithaka this year but plumped for Skopelos instead.

And I agree with you about Kos town. We did the Kos - Bodrum thing, on the hydrofoil. I wouldn't do it again, preferring to take the slow boat and enjoy the view.

Anyway, have a good time and don't drink too much Mythos.

Off to Prague in October. Apparently this is part of the saving for a new carpet plan.

Back home about 9:30 last night flight delays apparently to do with extra flights fetching people out from Tunisia.
Hotel was great, staff couldn't do enough for you. large balcony at the front looking out over the sea.
Best breakfast buffet we've ever had in the Greek Islands.
Speaking to other guests it seems we got a better deal than we thought, several people having paid double what we paid and others paying up to four times as much for 'all inclusive' which didn't include beer and only one cocktail from a list of about half a dozen, the evening buffet, which also had a bewildering choice of decently cooked food was only 14 Euros a head so just wouldn't have been worth it.
Loads of decent places to eat in the village.
Bit naughty that they quoted less than a kilometer from town but it was actually 3.5, fortunately they ran a free mini bus into town until early evening and a taxi back was only 5 Euros.
Would defo go back at some time in the future.

We went to Egypt in april - we've been to Egypt 5 times in the last three years so we decided to go somewhere different for our September Holiday. Took ages to choose a hotel and then on the very day we finally settled on one and were going to book for Port el Kantoui, Tunisia the sad news was announced about the shootings. Now we're thinking Turkey but on the same day the border between syria and Turkey was attacked. So now we don't know what to do. I'm thinking they could strike anywhere anytime so we may as well go wherever we want. I'm going to Rome in 10 days and I know Rome has been mentioned as a possibility for attacks. Has it put anyone off going to Tunisia?

Its meant to put people off visiting, that way tourism dries up leaving a lot of much poorer people that can eventually be convinced that we are to blame for their misfortunes.

Wouldn't put me off going anywhere, but I've not been farther than Wales in years!

I've just returned home from a weekend in Dorset. How much things cost down there is very foreign to me!

Son has found out a lad at his uni, along with two other members of his family , were killed in the Tunisian attacks. :(

Never fancied Tunisia myself, but would definitely put me off now.

Just back from Majorca .... first time I've been checked out by a sniffer dog, and ordered to " KEEP WALKING!!" when I smiled at the bouncy , waggy tailed doggy . (Think he was very interested in the smell of the ham sandwiches we still had in the backpack, after splashing out on a Burger King in the airport instead of eating them  )

We went to Egypt in april ...
My Attorney had a trip to Egypt booked the week before that other lunatic went all 'Allahu Snackbar' in Luxor.

All Egypt holidays were cancelled and alternative venues offered - Goa was one of them, and that was the alternative he chose. Now he's a big chap, my Attorney, and the plane was the same kind of shitty-no-leg-room offering that you'd sit on for a couple of hours to wherever - bad enough at the best of times, considerably worse for a ten hour flight. He was sadly unable to enjoy his paltry week in Goa, fretting as he was the nightmare return that loomed on his horizon. I doubt very much that there is anyone in the world skilled enough in wordsmithery to adequately convey just how much he regretted this choice

Flight to Egypt is 5 and a half hours and you still get the shitty-no-leg-room type planes. I know they don't consider it long haul but it's a hell of a long time to be squashed up with your knees attacking your boobs when you have long legs. Not that I'm suggesting your attorney has boobs!

I'm currently in the Scilly Isles. Although not on the island I'm staying on, this may well be the best beer garden view in the world.

The huge majority of Tunisians who are friendly and kind and who depend on tourism need your custom more than ever now. One crazy nutter, who has been caught, should not be allowed to make the whole country be guilty by association. Let's face it, we've had bombs in our own country haven't we? Manchester, London, Birmingham, Warrington etc etc :(

Go to Tunisia is my advice, Port El Kantaoui is secured off from the average Tunisian anyway, and will almost certainly be like Fort Knox now!! I also like Turkey, but there were bombings there also in the past few years hasn't there. Nowhere in the world is truly safe is it - I mean, who'd have thought some mad Norwegian would kill so many on a beautiful and remote island there??

I agree with you Kyoto - you can't be absolutely certain you will be safe wherever you go so we may as well go to the hotel we favour.
