Wikileaks

Thought there was already a topic, can't find it though.

So, whats everyones thoughts on whats happeing at the min? I find it odd they're still mentioning rape in many news stories despite both women admitting they consented to sex (and one admitting she was actually pursuing him specifically). Timing is interesting, just when lots of governments are being embarassed by WL. The fact that the US is looking into ways to try him as a terrorist is interesting, and certainly the way certain financial institutions are now refusing to process donations for them is a strong sign that pressure is mounting. At least 4chan can be counted on, but I can't help feeling this is one big push to give Americuh censorship control on the internet.

EDIT: Just for balance, here is a quote from Hillary Clinton
In many respects, information has never been so free. There are more ways to spread more ideas to more people than at any moment in history. Even in authoritarian countries, information networks are helping people discover new facts and making governments more accountable.

I found the concern shown by US Defence Secretary Bob Gates for the alleged victims quite touching. I've yet to find any evidence that he has found the arrest of anybody else wanted for crimes of a sexual nature to be "good news" but i'm sure it's just that i'm not looking in the right place.

He doesn't really strike me as a big defender of women's rights but whatever else can he mean?

Operation payback in full swing against paypal mastercard and others.

Good to see some paople are supporting Julian Assange.

He deserves a fair trial. Governements hate it when people know the truth it makes them redundant.

As long as Sweden don't **** him over and hand him to the US he should be OK. Not sure legally they can at this stage, but the view to charge him with treason and terrorism amongst other things makes ending up there dicey. Several high ranking Americuns have already called for the death sentence, but does the US have the balls in front of the whole world to kill someone for telling the truth? Actually I think they do.

The US will try to censor the internet, and at present they have the power to do this. You can't just censor the US, as that would make them as bad as China, but if the web itself was censored then your peons wouldn't technically be any worse off....

I wonder how long it will take before someone suggests the whole thing is part of a conspiracy and Assange is actually a CIA agent who created Wikileaks as a pretext for Big Government to clamp down on internet freedom?

Well........just a thought...but surely some of the cleverest people in the world work for their respective governments? Very soon after the internet was invented each government would have seen the potential of it and email (good and bad) with regards information. They would have done deals with Microsoft, financial institutions, intel and uncle tom cobley. They would have known years ago about the chances of information leaking out. Therefore, they would have ensured this couldn't happen. They would then at some point arrange for a fella who looked like a Bond baddie to look like he was leaking loads of sensitive information to kind of prove that it could be done. However, no REAL information of any importance would ever get out! Smoke screen...red herring...episode of Yes Prime Minsister ! Its obvious...obviously !! lol

The issue is that a lot of those who are in power do not understand technology, its benefits and its disadvantages.

Its only now companies are realising the benefits and power. A business can be slaughtered by the Internet! Ebay led the way with positive outcomes and we have trip advisor etc.

Now Governments are in the firing line. If you are open and straight you have nothing to fear. Its tittle tattle duplicity that causes problems ( politics)

Then the contract was awarded to EDS, and it failed miserably whilst costing billions....

The only flaw in the mass conspiracy theory is you'd have to believe the US capable of weaving such an intricate and complicated web. Given the ineptitude they've shown in the persecution, sorry prosecution, of Assange i'd say that would be highly unlikely.

SEO to the FACE
Quite the hot topic of the moment. It's been all over reddit and a lot of the other forums I frequent. In the papers too. I do like the way anonymous have stepped in too & the fact that the pirate party are now helping out wikileaks.

Another thing that has made me smile. After PayPals criminal handling of Wikileaks funds they get KTFO.

Most Brits live with their heads stuck up their arses and care little about the world, the corruption, the murders and only stir when their tv is turned off or their drug dealer suddenly disappears so I wouldnt expect too much reaction to wikileaks in lardland
