*** Customer Announcement ***

Following on from our announcement earlier in the year about the mall refurbishment works, we can now confirm that they will be starting this coming Monday 6th November, due to be completed mid-late March 2018.

There will be 2 weeks over the festive period where no works will be done, so there will be no impact to the late night shopping. Work will re-commence on Tuesday 2nd January 2018.

All of the works will be taking place overnight to have as little impact as possible on the day to day trading.

Work will begin at the rear of the centre by the Earl Street entrance, removing ceilings, replacing lights and repainting. They will then work their way down the malls before finishing at Market Square reconfiguring the entrance and replacing the canopy.

For the duration of these works, and because of the hours the contractors will be on site we will unfortunately be having to close the car park at 8.00pm. It will also then not reopen until 7.00am. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We will keep you all updated of what is happening behind the scenes, keep an eye out for our before, during and after photos

Would be interesting to see pictures of the Guildhall during the first few years it was open? Even during its development.

When it was opened it looked exactly the same as it does now, except that in those days it had shops and customers.

And a fountain.

I'm sure in the dim and distant past of the Guildhall, they painted all the boardings on the empty shops as narrow boats?

Just one night with a wrecking ball and a couple of bulldozers should do it.

A lot of work is required to the Guildhall, sadly I don't think those in charge of the centre have a clue what to do.

The centre has been in decline for at least 10 years and yet nothing has been done until the riverside development forced it's hand.

The reconfiguration of the upper floor and loss of one lift to allow for the jjb store was a huge own goal, likewise the removal of the fountains and seating.

They also failed to realise that most national operators want bigger square boxes, hence why some have relocated to the riverside.

The guildhall has also gone downhill following the introduction of poundstretcher and opening and closing of carbon.

I'd love to see the guildhall reintroduce seating, fountains, a 2nd lift, provide larger units to encourage some national operators on the groundfloor, reopen the 1st floor for pop up units or small independents and provide a dedicated area on the groundfloor for independent stores and a food court.

I'd love to see something like the linkway at newstreet station at the guildhall.

The market area also needs some serious attention. Id like this area to be opened up so the market forms part of the centre rather than hidden behind some doors.

I personally don't think the introduction of Poundland has anything to do with it...

Just look at the previous tenants and their performance...

Spotting a trend here ?

IKFA, but perhaps they could consider opening both entrance gates, thus giving potential customers the idea that the place is actually open and might contain a shop or two?

The Poundland sells cheap tat for a £1. It has dragged the guildhall down. The other stores maintained the quality of the centre, however it was financial mismanagement of the individual companies that caused their demise. Their loss from the high street was a blow. Would people feel the same loss if Poundland disappeared?

The guildhall used to have a number of quality stores. It now doesn't.

Pound / discount stores are common throughout Stafford. They don't entice me and I suspect others to trek to the guildhall, hence why the guildhall is dying.
