New stores in the guildhall

Enjoying a drop of red.
It's a few minutes - probably 5 if you're quick (and the same back)- which if you only have a 30 mins lunch break or gap in between classes is a bit of a trek, especially if there's a queue at Subway.
Actually, I popped into town to test this a bit earlier on my way home from work (and not in anyway because I fancied some uber-peasant Cheesy Nachos) and the walk from the Guildhall Market Square entrance to Subway took 2:43, at my normal walking pace which I believe is about average for an able bodied male.

The fact that swathes of society seem to think this is a trek, or unacceptable is probably a major reason for the country being in the state it's in. How sad.

Anyway, the nachos were nice, as I ate them in the park. Now the park really is a bloody long way from Subway...

2 hours 43 mins is a bit slow even for me with a gammy hip.

And the reason for the country being the shape it is in is down to greedy feckers eating shite like Subways, make them all a good two mile waddle away and that'll sort the country out.

I do lament that more and more US stores are taking over. They are fine in the USA - and I should know - just don't see why they ahve to be everywhere else.

Leisure gets a lot of incentives from shopping centres. I do a lot of work in the Virtual Reality arcade sector (think places you go, pay and get time on a headset to play a bunch of different games, go through a VR escape room, stuff like that) and shopping centres bite owners' hands off at the mere mention because it often brings more footfall to the location.

Unfortunately I don't think something like that would be sustainable with costs upwards of £100k a year in rent/business rates.

There was one of those at the Link (link between New Street station and Bull Ring) it didn't last very long. I would love to see something like the Link in Guildhall market.

Ah virtual X, went there a few times to see what the whole VR thing was about, great fun, its a shame there is nowhere local offering vr gaming.

Yeah, the margins are tight and Virtual X was before the pay-per-minute licensing came in for games. Funnily enough they were one of the first customers of a client I had back then.

There was another in Brum that moved I think?

These days you get some pretty cool stuff where you all share a space, see each other and play multiplayer games together. Those ones bring people from all around but have some pretty hefty startup costs involved and need a lot of space.
