That vegan thread.

a) so you couldn't?
b) how could you tell after a month of trying?
a) I don't know as I never tried, but I admit it doesn't look promising. A bit like me running the Stafford Half-Marathon.

b) I'm sure I'd be aware of a few things after a month, positive and negative.

a) but you said 'I did think of staying vegan during February...' just now.

b) it's not/wasn't like that for me, it's either i do it or i don't and don't was never an option. It's not to be taken lightly but then if you go into something thinking you could go back it doesn't matter, well then, that's not the right attitude imo. You set off to fail. I've seen the positive and negative, but the small negative things for me were/is the not having an option at what was my favourite place to go for a bite to eat, but then if they ain't changing doesn't mean i'm staying behind with them.

Whatever

Anyway, on a more positive note, the last couple of Wednesday evenings, I have had the pleasure of sampling @Kickstart 's homemade vegan fruitcake. And jolly nice it is too. I can't fault the ingredients (she did tell me, but I've forgotten), but I'm not sure it would get far in TGBBO. I suspect more practice may be required. ;)

Yes, sorry about that. I did start typing a reply, but then thought I'd probably explained the point as well as I could do using the Stafford Half Marathon analogy (if I didn't start it, how could I know if I'd finish it or not), so didn't feel inclined to explain it again.

And anyway, Katy's cake was much more interesting. Hopefully we'll get it again (or something similar) tonight.

Depends.
Difficult to answer your question.
Can you elaborate?
Sorry, man, i meant to provide a link to an interesting radio broadcast i'd just listened to but then. absent-mindedly didn't.

Around two thirds of fibres produced globally are synthetic material - many used in our clothing. It's emerged that plastic microfibres are being shed when we wear and wash these items - which ironically include fleeces and kit worn by 'outdoorsy types' like Tom Heap. With microplastics in the marine environment now high on the agenda, Tom hears how these tiny invisible strands can be a major contributor to the scale of plastics in the oceans. They also pollute land and freshwater and are being consumed by creatures in our rivers as well as the seas.

I realise that the question, without subsequent context, appears to be quite belligerent in tone - which was not my intention at all. Merely food for thought, as 'twere.

Food isn't our only source of food for thought, what?

Might make some today. Tbh, I made some originally for a friend recovering from surgery who is vegan. Said to my better half when making it that we would see what they taste like before deciding whether to admit making them. They tasted better than expected.

Recipe
9oz each of currents, raisins and sultanas.
6oz of cherries.
6oz of sugar.
1 pint soya milk
200ml vegetable oil.
1lb of wholemeal self raising flour.
2oz ground almonds
1 tblsp black treacle.
Brandy.
Fair bit of mixed spice and cinnamon.

This is enough for 3 x 6" diameter cakes. Cook on gas mark 2 for about 2.5 hours.

Isn't it just great when Vegans squabble?

Suppose it is admiral to be really passionate about things but some people just do go a bit over the top defending their view of the world don't they?
Neither G nor Miki is vegan though.
