Why do the rest of us have to suffer because of arseholes like this?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54309603

I can't deny (and I know it's sad) that there are times when I think the human race might just deserve this virus. Maybe it's the Earth's way of getting rid of what it sees as a virus. We are a selfish species. And in that I fully admit to my own guilt in the course of 73 years. I've personally taken part in dumping major crap into the sea, consuming on a scale that makes citizens of Third World countries (which we love to blame for all of this) look like pure amateurs, and I'm sure lots of other contributions to planetary woes.
I suppose I have the dubious advantage of thinking I wont be around when the shit hits the fan !!

If protests and demonstrations were banned we would be on very dodgy ground democracy wise.

I wasn’t suggesting that demonstrations should be banned permanently.

What I was saying is that while during this unprecedented moment in time, the majority are temporarily forgoing their freedom in some form or another. It can’t be right to tell members of society to have no more than 6 at a household gathering and yet on the other hand allowing a gathering of 15,000 people.

Some people don’t seem to have grasped the concept of “what’s good for the hive is good for the bees”.

Indeed. I wonder what will happen when deaths rise above 100 in a few weeks time. Will we shut pubs again, or will, as it is likely to be debated in parliament, the Tory publican donors get their local MPs to say that it's okay to keep their pub open

Would you say the same about delaying a general election if we had one this year?

Protesting is a democratic right, it sends a message. If the government forcibly locked us in our homes and welded the doors shut, how would we make a statement that it wouldn’t be allowed?

Extreme example, but disallowing protesting is not okay.

Protest yes, but find a different way other than large gatherings (anything over 6 units in my view). At least while things are the way they are, or everything we have done is for nothing.

I don't think @Carole is suggesting banning protests, I think she is saying FFS let them protest but do it whilst socially distancing (@Carole please correct me if I am wrong)

Unfortunately it will never happen because the majority of protesters don't give a toss about the wellbeing of anyone apart from their own selfish selves.

Oh, yeah, duh. That’s why the protests were broken up - lack of social distancing

it’s already been demonstrated that it’s possible to do a socially distant protest. If I recall we didn’t see a spike during the BLM protests at all?

They’re already talking about using the army etc.
I never, ever thought I’d say this but martial law could be the answer & might not be too far away.
Power to the people.... yeah right.

Sshhh, don’t tell everyone. Instead of vaccination we’ll al be forced to join a BLM protest. Well it could be worse, it could be an extinction rebellion protest.
