I see him every now and then, usually traversing the market square. Although, I haven't see him this year, so far.

Feck! Brian, George, the Current Bun, "Memories, like the corners of my mind, misty watercolour memories, of the way we were"

Used to play for the darts team, and spent many nights in the darts bit at the back. Was in there one new years eve, when the garrulous Brian was serenading punters with "Serve all the regulars, and bugger all the rest!" He was so pissed, you would not make it out, if you had drunk to much, and were not used to his unique characteristics! Truly a legend.

Titanic. If that is Mr Botts brewery in Burslem, count me in! Mr Bott used to be a Venture Scout with my brother, and any do at the St Bertalins scout hut, was not complete, unless it had a Cask of Titanic.

The story is the brewery was named in memory of the captain of the Titanic, Edward Smith, who was born in Bo'slem. One of the first brews was Captain Smiths, and very good drink it was to! So keep it coming Dave @ Keith. The brothers were close neighbours, and family friends, and their mum and dad good muckers of my parents

I always had the same conversation with George each week

Me - "Alright George?"

George - " 'Course I am!"

Perhaps the ham Jumbo can be re invented along with the sludge pie with and beans and a pint of Spring

Not to forget his immortal 'killer' chat up line for bar staff or female students half his age "Hello funny face".

don't mention the blinds
Or "queer socket" whatever that meant and for some reason he'd either "been to crewe" or was "going to crewe".......

Perhaps he should be in stafford's 'hall of fame' alongside, the deak, robbie robot, tom the sentinel seller, johnny pickup, barry the barman, the simpsons, lee (railway inn) tom (tavern) joe feenan (eagle) jules caruso, don buckley, harry fenton, et al.......

Don't know if it has been mentioned previously, but anyone remember the cafe upstairs in Stafford Old Stafford Market hall?
I used to really enjoy that old market.

I forgot all about that and then it sprung to mind when showing hubby a photo out of a recent Newsletter of the White Lion Pub.I was describing how the road went straight past the Malt & Hops and the Sun,with Attwoods garage etc.

The Sun, Malt & Hops and The Grapes (The Grapes used to be my 2nd home and eventually met hubby in there!) used to be really good pubs years ago.
