Sadly missed? Blasts from the past - A reminder of Stafford's past

Next to Asda? Had a filling their with no anaesthetic once, also had a tooth removed by the dentist kneeling on my chest and bruising it. Weird that you ALWAYS needed a filling, yet people I knew using other dentists rarely did.

I remember the worst visit when I had quite a few teeth out and there were 6 trainees standing around the chair. They all got to 'have a go' and I was told off because I was gagging, with their hands in my mouth for so long, and was sick!

I had all four back teeth out there, with gas. I'll never forget how sick i was that day. There was also the school chiropodist that used to be on the walls, just before the blind centre. It had a lovely lawn in front.

You had a filling done at Asda? They really have all the bases covered these days..

Anyone remember the school dentist building in Lammascote Road? The building is now occupied by Horn End nursery.
Wasn't the Chiropodist in the same place? sorted out a couple of verruca for me, though they were not anywhere near as big as the ones my brother had to have removed! Of course they don't take them out now unless they are really causing pain.
Much to my discust (now), it was in there years before, that I was introduced to that delightful story book, Little Black Sambo!!!! :ohno:
Say what you like about Political Correctness, but at least you are not subjected to that kind of crap, any more. I new no different at the time, and always used to look for it when I attended in the late 60's early 70's, and used to really enjoy it!

last i heard dennis was active on penkridge parish council, i still smile when i recall his antics '77 or '78 when prince phil came to visit and fred hollis let HRH play with the hoverthingy......
Was he a Scouse chap or at least from that way on? He would be in his 60s and quite possibly early 70s now?

The only reason I ask is that there was a Dennis on my Access course at Stafford college in 1999. The course was only for one year but apparently he'd been doing it for over four years. He used to come drinking with us lot at the Bird and I remember him being from Penkridge.

Amen to that

And don't be put off Conrad, 'The Secret Agent' is a monumentally relevant work, and 'Heart of Darkness' is required reading for 'Apocalypse Now' lovers.

Now that sounds like him and he was rightly proud of coming from 'the dingle'.....

Feck! Brian, George, the Current Bun, "Memories, like the corners of my mind, misty watercolour memories, of the way we were"

Used to play for the darts team, and spent many nights in the darts bit at the back. Was in there one new years eve, when the garrulous Brian was serenading punters with "Serve all the regulars, and bugger all the rest!" He was so pissed, you would not make it out, if you had drunk to much, and were not used to his unique characteristics! Truly a legend.

Titanic. If that is Mr Botts brewery in Burslem, count me in! Mr Bott used to be a Venture Scout with my brother, and any do at the St Bertalins scout hut, was not complete, unless it had a Cask of Titanic.

The story is the brewery was named in memory of the captain of the Titanic, Edward Smith, who was born in Bo'slem. One of the first brews was Captain Smiths, and very good drink it was to! So keep it coming Dave @ Keith. The brothers were close neighbours, and family friends, and their mum and dad good muckers of my parents

According to Brian Matthew's tribute this morning, Three Steps to Heaven was originally intended to be the B-side...

And, of course, Dave Dee was still a copper then, and one of the first on the scene..

There was also a big old rusty steamroller in the park behind St Anne's in Baswich. I seem to remember a burned-out VW Golf on the Chase too, but not sure if this was intended as children's play area. (It might have been a Ford Fiesta.)

There is some film here that may be of great interest to some of the aged fraternity on the Forum. There is footage of the town and surroundings - including a few seconds of a three-lane road - remember the excitement of wondering if you would survive the overtaking manouevre?.

And a Westminster, or two, surely the ultimate car, although I would have been unable to get into the white Jag for fear that it would plunge over a cliff into a quarry..

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
good to see the milk churns on the lorry by the Greyhound at Burston but the highlight was seeing Gaol Square and the garage again

Dennis was on the Access course for four years and was a penkridge parish councillor. Quite a character. Do you remember the lecturers at the time. Dennis used to talk non-stop. I think Mike Shone was a lecturer.

Mid 70s Dennis used to arrange coach trips to Jollies for Penky people and would often rope in transformer colleagues, he had a look of John Lennon ie mouth/teeth and the nose.......
