I think it's too late now ! Most people I know go elsewhere and the new development doesn't look very promising now especially with the increased parking fees....
will have to disagree with you there judging by the traffic and almost full car parks in Stafford today there are still people willing to come to Stafford to shop. the new centre will only encourage more to make the trip to stafford

Yep agree... When it's open people will use it... (And it's pay on exit right?)

Temporary lights currently at the motorway end of Eccleshall Road, about a hundred yards in and a fairly slow change, so it backs up onto the roundabout for added interest.

I understand the concept, but can anyone explain why there's a lollipop person on Rising Brook/A449 opposite the school*, when there's one set of traffic lights (for crossing the road) 100ft one way and a set of traffic lights (for crossing the road) 200ft the other way!?

*Yes, as I've said I know what lollipop people are for, schools an'that, but where the LP is positioned, the little darlings can't get through the gates anyway and have to walk on down towards the set of traffic lights that they could have crossed at in the first place.

Because on the opposite side to the school where the LP does her thing, there is a short cut passageway to the estate. You and I might well use the automated crossing points provided, but sadly kids being kids, they won't.

That's fine, but who's to say they'll use the LP?

Kids cross roads outside school hours, so why can't they fend for themselves (and use the crossings) during school hours?
Lollipop peeps aren't the best judges of traffic calming and when best to pop their lollipops in the air, at the best of times.

Kids of an age that still need to cross with a lollipop person shouldn't be out on their own in the first place.

Those that aren't (and are) accompanied by an adult, can walk down to a pedestrian crossing and press a button, no?

Fair point but it's probably because if the LEA isn't seen to be doing something and a kid gets squished whilst crossing the road going to or from school, they'll get sued for far more than the cost of the LP in the first place.

I gone run over once luckily by a cyclist and not the enormous lorry behind it, all because I followed the lolly pop ladies cue to cross the road, I had a broken foot, however it turns out my foot want broken even though I'd had it plastered, it was a bit strange as I hardly ever used my crutches and could walk normally on it, no wonder really! Still the crutches made me popular with the kids in our street taking it in turns to have a go!

Don't get me wrong, lollipop peeps in the right place are a credit to society (@Floss67 's story aside!) and look out for the kids safety no end, but it's the putting them in a strange place between perfectly adequate traffic lights/crossings is my gripe. Therefore causing yet more stops and starts down that stretch of road.

I was stuck in a mile long traffic jam one morning is all, #justventin', and saw no really need for the lollipop person to be there at all, when the kids are walking towards either traffic lights/crossings in the first place, whatever side of the road they were on.

Luckily I don't use that stretch of road normally, so can bypass it.

Anyway, Stafford traffic eh, tut!
