Coronavirus.

Personally reading the previous few posts I can't help but think of the damage this virus is doing to society in general outside of the obvious health risks. My guess is if they found a vaccine tomorrow and were to eliminate the bloody thing, the scars of these past few months on what we might term as normal behaviour will be with us for years ... decades maybe for kids. :(

I love a drink, I have no kids, I'd still open schools before pubs.
But there's no evidence to suggest why it should have to be or the other.
A principle of robbing Peter to pay Paul - without any direct link between the two things in terms of spreading infections - is as flawed as Boris's reactions to coronavirus right from the start.

pubmen get far more satisfaction going to a pub than pupils going to school.

It’s a bit of a generalisation wouldn’t you say?
Yes, maybe a generalisation but one based on my personal experience.
That "some children are actually in danger at home and some children only get fed properly when they are at school" just makes me question what this country's coming to - sadly times very different from when I attended schools long ago.

Times haven't changed, This has always been the case. For some kids it may be the only hot meal they get all day, sometimes due to both parents having to work, they may get free school meals, due to lack of money/personal circumstances. Myself and 2 sisters received free school meals, and I can promise you, we were really glad of that fact.
Under lockdown, families have been forced to spend a lot more time together, for some children, school is a safe haven, Teachers are more likely to notice bruises, unkempt appearances, in other words - child abuse. Under lockdown, this will and is going unnoticed.

You have made your opinions perfectly clear, Pubs all the way. Member of CAMRA are we?
It's a well known fact, Dad goes the pub, spends the housekeeping, gets pissed, comes home and gives the wife and kiddies a good beating.

I do actually agree with you on this.
I don't understand the correlation either on why if the schools open, then the pubs might have to close.

I'm sure someone will come along and explain it to me.
If the pubs are being sensible and ensuring social distancing then it should be ok.

If the biggest cause of infection is too many people congregating and not social distancing then they should be clamping down on that.
Allowing people to crowd onto beachs or party in the streets or letting people march through cities on demonstrations for "whatever the cause of the week is" is letting people get away with it and totally sending out the wrong message.

I’m shocked, shocked I say that the public are abusing the 50% off eating out deal after years of austerity and abuse from the government.

I almost dropped my half price Subway on the sofa.

I was trying to understand this in terms of reaching the limits of lockdown easing. I assume they are referring to an increase in the infection rate but surely Boris and his chums must have realised that once lockdown restrictions began to be eased that it was more than likely the R rate would climb again. They just don't seem to have taken this into account to allow pubs and schools to be open together.

It smacks to me that it's not really a case of pubs v schools it's really a case of economic greed v common sense.

Not necessarily but spending on education should be scrutinised more as government debt increases
And everyone's mental wellbeing must be considered, pubmen getting far more satisfaction from going to a proper pub than pupils attending a school..

I did miss going to the pub during lockdown but I enjoyed my own safety more.

As for wellbeing going to a proper pub, it's great to catch up with friends again but the anxiety of trying to get people to social distance properly doesn't do anyone's wellbeing any good.

Thus I'm only going to the pub when I can sit outside and be away from the idiots.

At the end of the day if it comes down to pub v schoolkids then it can only be down to those who are blatently flaunting the rules that have forced the choice to be made and I know it isn't caused by the kids.

The only way they're going to keep me locked in the house if they isolate people based on age (50+) is if they offer a sacrifice. Dominic Cummings head on a f****** stake on my front lawn would be a start.
