After the love has gone......

I was very fortunate this week to have met a man most unlike myself.
A man advanced in years who still remembers British paratroopers, Staffordians amongst them, falling from the skies over his homeland of Holland to free him and his own from that tyranny.
Here i am, a man who has never known such suffering, trying to assure him that we still remember, we still feel the same bond.
We are both incredulous, not knowing what will become of us.
He says " whatever comes we must make sure we will always be friends" and extends his hand - we shake hands and he leaves.
I shed a tear as he turns the corner.
