ASDA introducing Pay and display parking

its one of the most expensive car parks in Stafford for a Sunday as most are free. what price do you want to see charged? it might damage their reputation as a low price retailer if they start charging through the nose to park. at 1pm today the car park was busy but lots of spaces still available. don't forget there is a second car park at the back if needed speaking of which does anybody know if the rear carpark is also pay and display?
I think you've missed one important factor. Yes, £1 all day on Sunday is still expensive compared to most which are free. However, previously people were still limited to 2 hours by the ANPR camera system so couldn't stay there the whole day. This all proves that it's about making money and not customers best interests as they have claimed.

What price do I want to see charged? £2 minimum charge. Customers shouldn't mind as they'll get it back and it would prove then that they are genuinely looking out for customers best interests. Anything that makes the car park cheaper than other alternatives just screams out "hey, park here no matter where you're going in town". And £1 all day Sunday is no exception. Yeah, others are free but others having been recently stating that they are changing things "in the interest of customers"

Sorry, but it's a crock of s***

As for the car park at the back, I've always believed that's staff parking and deliveries only?

I suspect they've lost a lot of 'big shop' sales by people seeing the car park looks full, suggesting the shop is full and would be too busy - so they go on to somewhere else - it makes sense to me - they are a profit making company after all

Apparently the pay and display is a work in progress but I don't believe any changes should be made till end of Jan as the carparks should be busy now as we approach Asda's busiest time. if it still busy in mid Jan then tweak the system if necessary.

Have they put ANPR cameras back in ??

I'm of the opinion that, if you want to park your car near your house, you damn well better get a house with private parking.

Minor problem with this is the changes to the planning laws under John Prescott limiting the building of houses with decent parking

Why does everyone need to drive to town to visit the new shops? Why can't you use the bus, walk or cycle? I know for a food shop the car is easier, but is it not possible for anyone to walk to town and carry their frilly vests from Primark?!

Personally from Derrington taking the car will knock half an hour off the return trip compared to cycling. If I want something in a hurry this is significant, if I am not in a hurry then I can order online or just pick it up when getting other bulkier stuff from town. If I want speed and the traffic is heavy then I can take a motorcycle.

IGenuine question, as I'm intrigued, in the modern world why would anyone EVER go to the council offices? I haven't been in the new Scaffoldshire Place ever, and it's so long since I went in to the Borough Council office, the old Riverside was still there when I did. I wouldn;t have a clue why I'd need to go there :/

Change of name for electoral roll and the like?

As to Asda parking charges, makes it clunky to dive in and get something and dive out again if I want the money refunded (same as Sainburys), plus adding the time to get the ticket, return to the car and then go into the shop. Enough to make me go to Tescos? Probably not, but does makes Sainburys more appealing in comparison. Sainsburys will refund the parking charge at the self service till if you can attract a member of staff and wait for them to unlock their change cubby hole.

All the best

Overheard the customer service lady saying that there's 10 minutes grace period, so they could be allowing for people that just want nip in, and the charges are for those that stay longer for the Riverside shops

couple questions.

anyone know if sales have dropped since the parking charges came into play, from Saturday i think ?

And secondly, if you get a ticket, do you HAVE to pay? if its a private car park i didnt think you did?

I don't have a ticket, and i saved a lady from getting 1 as she nearly forgot when she parked up.

what is really annoying is if you want your pound back, you have to wait at customer service till to get it, wasting time! i told them i'd be going to tesco next time.

The solution is to make every single car park in town completely free of charge. That way, it will be a level playing field and people will park where they need to so they can visit the appropriate place.

It'll never happen though.

It's more likely that all car parks will be chargeable and at the same cost per hour.

i thought this the other day, everywhere should be free, shops would do so much better as well, meaning council would have more money coming in from shops

I used to be of the opinion that it was sad of Asda being arsey about a bit of free parking considering how many millions of pounds gets spent there but that was before the Riverside shops were opened over the other side of the road. Those who used Asda then walked into town or used the leisure centre was pretty minimal but now a lot park there and walk over to the new shops.
Bringing in parking charges will annoy a number of customers and Asda might lose some custom but I struggle to see what else they can do. I imagine over time people will get used to paying just as they do at Sainsbury's.
i dont go to sainburys for the hassle of getting a ticket, its always raining when i needed to go shopping and i want to just run into the shop, not faff about waiting for a ticket to come out walk BACK to the sodding car unlock it all again squeeze in the gap i just got out of to put ticket in window. i like it easy, i have a busy life lol

I have heard that every car park space is worth over £800 per year to the Council. They could not afford to lose that revenue.
