Big Fire on Astonfields

A chemical is a bond of two or more elements,
Mmm, I think that is a chemical compound - matter consisting of a single element, e.g., carbon in the form of graphite or diamond, is just as much a chemical as matter consisting of more than one element interconnected by chemical bonds.

I do not intend to imply that there is diamond available on Astonfields.

I went past this on my way to the Marshes last week - the first time i'd been anywhere near it since the incident.

Man. it's proper f**ked up, isn't it? It looked entirely untouched by any sort of 'clean up' operation from where i stood - on the same journey i noticed that there were still booms across Pearl Brook between Asda and the Leisure Centre, and they still appeared to be collecting oomska.

They have done a bit, but very little for some weeks now. Somebody removed the piece that blew out into the road, that I pictured above. There is oil soaked into the banks of the lakes*, which will be emanating for some time yet.

* and, presumably, downstream, also.

There are fairly regular pollution events in that waterway.

I had completely forgotten that my route would mean i would pass it - i was heading W on Isabel - and i double-taked, then doubled back to take it all in.

Looks a proper mess with a lot to do to make it less messy.

There appears to have been no effort whatsoever to make any inroads into the debris, although somebody has been round and tacked back the bits of net curtain that were flapping against the fence.

It still smells quite nasty, too and the (presumably contaminated?) rainwater is running off-site straight into the drains.

The smell is a new feature of Stafford. Never say the council don't do anything for us.

The rain is still washing oil off the site, out onto the road and into the drains.

The outlet from the top balancing lake also has plenty of oil evident still.

Probably waiting for the big clean up until the insurance issue/blame game is sorted out, I mean who is actually footing the bill?
