This years Stafford Beer Festival (tentatively titled Heart of Staffordshire Beer Festival 4: The Revenge) has confirmed dates for this year. The venue will remain Blessed William Howard school and dates this year will be Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th July 2011. The beer range this year is set to increase marginally this year bringing the usual split of LocAle and NationAle beers as in previous years.

Also to celebrate reaching the 4th year the people in the know have created a swanky website especially for the event:

Heart of Staffordshire Beer Festival

Peace out.....

As the festival is on a constant learning curve, if there is anything we could improve on year to year then the committee is always willing to take on board suggestions where improvements can potentially be made. Critiscisms(constructive if at all possible)/suggestions/praise can be left here and will duly be passed forward for discussion.

Simpler pricing policy, i know they don't all cost the same but maybe just average it out......

Pricing is always a difficult one, and being both a punter (I have been known to be both sides of the bar) and a volunteer I can sympathise with the confusion on the slightly odd and random seeming pricing structure. That said we do try to keep pricing as low as possible whilst reflecting the time and effort that goes into producing the beer sold. £1.10 - 1.40 is a pretty fair price for a half, rising to circa £1.90ish for the slightly stronger or harder to source beers. I'll mention your concerns to the committee anyway and see how they would redress the balance and get back to you if at all possible.

In other related news the provisional beer list was submitted in the last couple of days.... The split is going to be approximately 60:40 LocAle/NationAle (with the NationAle focussing on the North/North West). This should hopefully mean that along with the usual suspects (Sarah Hughes/Titanic/Lymestone/Enville) we should see a few new micros appearing. From my own personal recommendations this should see more from Marble in Manchester and also hopefully both Dunham Massey (Cheshire) and Happy Valley (Bollington, Macclesfield) added to the running.

Thanks for the reply, i know that when i visit these events i would much rather either pay cash for each drink, i understand the problems that may entail or pay up-front for set number of vouchers/tokens and know i could then sample a number of drinks. It may not be a simple task however it would be much easier (after a few) to manage for the drinkers....hic!.........

Cheers for your feedback Basil; the problem with running a cash bar is there is an extra element of security which then has to be taken into account. This issue was highlighted a few years back at both the GBF (Great British Beer Festival) and an event in Liverpool (I know playing to stereotype), where cash floats were pilfered by a light fingered member of the public at large. Since then most CAMRA events have gone to the cashless system. THat's not to say that this doesn't also have its limitations, people left with not enough tokens at the end of the night to purchase a drink etc. However most of the volunteers are allowed discretion and are more likely to know off some cash if you you have the majority of the asking price....

Thanks for the update, to some people (Gilbert For one) cash is beer tokens... :pint: .....

cant remember much about the festival last year as I had been at the test match all day and rocked up 3/4 cut but it seemed to be a success. Have leaving do from work on the Friday this year at Chambers so combining this with the fest from 5pm, could be very messy. Still searching for Salopian Lemon Dream but am looking forward to trying the Joules as I am a sucker for IPA, bring it on!
