What nonsense!

Even co-operatives have someone in charge!
I don't know which co-operatives you're talking about... I am a member of Stafford Housing Co-operative and there is no one person in charge, we all make the decisions.
We all make the decisions, or we make the decisions collectively
And then take a vote
?
We use Consensus Decision Making.

“Why do banks in general want to pay bonuses? It’s because they live in a 'too big to fail’ world in which the state will bail them out on the downside.”

And yet the time for remorse is over - looks like the opportunity for reform went with it.

There's no justice like Angry Mob justice.

Brazil interest rates rise to 11.75%
Inflation was 5.91% last year and is forecast to remain above 5% in 2011.
When i was there *ahem* some time ago, it was above 2000% - crazy, man. Bundles (not quite wheelbarrows but then i was only buying bread and circuses) of notes. They actually reissued (and renamed) the currency about a week after i crossed the border - the banks closed for three days in the process, thank feck i didn't cross said border a week later - and many of the notes in circulation were survivors of the last reissue, but instead of being 10,000 cruzados they had 10 cruzados novos stamped on them from an ink pad!

I have a very soft spot for the brasileños - i'm glad they're in the premier league now, i can't think of many i would wish it more for.

"The Britain-based sculptor Anish Kapoor has decided to cancel plans to show his work at the National Museum of China in Beijing, a protest against the Chinese government’s detention of Ai Weiwei, the artist, architect and social critic who has been in custody in an undisclosed site for two months."

That'll certainly show the buggers. They'll thing twice about wrongly imprisoning people now for sure

I haven't read most of this thread, because I simply couldn't be arsed. The merits of capitalism are many as are the 'whatever the opposite of merits is'. However, in response to one of the pros being that lazy people are found out in a capitalist economy - at least in terms of material tingalings and money; doesn't ring true for me! Lazy rich people either born into ownership of large companies, or shareholding or on the board, or just rich heirs of capitalist fortunes yadda yadda etc, are often lazy retards that do diddle at the expense of the 'workers' or 'customers' on whom they rely on for their companies to continue making cash. They employ advisers, managers, assistants to do everything etc etc yadda yadda, sleep with bountiful amounts of air headed women who look like porn stars and fly around in a helicopter blissfully unaware of what we call reality (bastards?!). Capitalism is a breeding ground for unethical leadership and privilege and as a consequence - laziness! And tax dodgers etc. I'd rather have to piss on a lazy pauper who didn't know any better than a some rich tosser who assumes wealth is his god given right....if they were on fire that is, not for kicks.
