Castletown Parking

There won't be as the station car park is being done without planning permission so no planning application in the public domain. The railway have some exemptions from planning requirements when developing on "operational land" in their ownership.

That, perhaps, made some sense when it was all in public ownership, but it seems a bit inappropriate for what are now in affect, state-subsidised private enterprises.

Yep, state subsidised to five times the cost of what British Rail cost us....

Stafford station car park is being funded by Network Rail (virtually public owned) who recover their cost over a period of time by increasing the cost to Virgin West Coast Trains of leasing the car park from them. In turn Virgin charge everyone 6 quid a day to park and do very nicely thank you...

yeah, it always makes me chuckle when people complain about parking charges in stafford.. one of the reasons i hated sheffield was that i became a complete recluse, because one couldn't simply pop in to town for a look round on a nice day or things like that.. "popping into town" entailed a minimum half-hour drive in dense traffic, then paying about a tenner for a couple of hours parking

and don't start on at me about public transport.. you know i refuse to mix with the proletariat!

That's true, there are a lot of things wrong with public transport, but the worst thing is the public themselves. I've only ever been on two buses in Stafford and that was enough for me. I used to use the train every two or three months, before some half-wit got at the timetable, and even then I used to be careful to check for football and rugby fixtures in an effort to reduce the level of imbecility that I was exposed to.

Has anyone heard any more about the Castletown Parking scheme. Everything seems to have gone very quiet on this issue.

Yeah I was thinking about this yesterday, as I noticed that Mark Heenan had logged on. I know I asked the 'What's going on?!' question only a couple of days after Mark was elected, however it's been a few weeks now and it would be reassuring to at least have an update as to the current state of play, even if it's just to say that X can't happen until Y is sorted, etc...

I've just written a fairly lengthy email to Mark Heenan covering this and a number of other topics. Hopefully i'll receive a response soon, and will post the details when I get them.

In your own posts you will find "edit" - between "report" and "quote" in the bottom right-hand corner. I have to do it all the time. Somehow I just can't see the post clearly until I've pressed submit. Just a thought...

Andreas - have you heard anything about Castletown parking scheme. They begin building station car park in October which means nowhere for commuters to park in the meantime. Did Mark Heenan get back to you.

A huge site owned by St Modwen exists at the rear of Castle Works - Maybe this is the answer, level it and zone it for parking.
