People eat at the chinese trough and that aint even that cheap, can't believe people will pay that but they do.
You mean golden orient? Shocking place. And I have a lot of time for a Chinese buffet but that place really sucks.

So

In conclusion

We are all worse off for one less pleasant room to sit in and sup a pint

Catering is not an easy way to make a living in Stafford

The two necked swan is on the Nantwich Road - the owners of which are doing up The Wayfarer in Stone

Weston Hall, Weston near Stafford appears closed but Weston Park, straddling the Salop/ Stafford border remains open

Progress is being made on fitting Ye ( The ) Rose and Crown in Market Street and construction continues on the Old Post Office

And finally - you cant flush your stools away in the Staffordshire Place

What i don't understand is the intransigence of the landlord -

Why was the landlord being such a hard-on with a Christmas boom within sniffing distance?

How could it be better for them to have empty premises?

On a side note - far be it from me, but one would have thought the more honourable thing to have done would have been to use those txt mssgs to summon a meeting of all staff to explain the situation personally.

Although most people on the forum are foodies most people in stafford want to get the most for as cheap as possible. This is why places like 2for1 or 2for10, an all you can eat chinese buffet and cheap carveries are still going whilst places like chambers and weston hall are closed.

This is just a personal view and feel i get from stafford.

Unfortunatly I don't think Stafford will ever change.

Fair comment

Its always been about price in Stafford

Price led not product led, so any deviation from that model is a risk

I welcome risk takers

Jeffers4591 lost his job also, and his busniness and now after reading some posts here his sanity.

I feel for all involved, mainly the people at the top who would have been trying to keep this gem a float and thinking of anything and everything to keep it going, not just for themselves but for the pot-washers up, give the guy a break.

there will always be the golden question that nobody can answer and that is how to make a business work, you can have everything people desire but for some soddin' reason it just doesn't work, you can be flying high one day and have your wings clipped the next, no one business is untouchable.

The Wolrd isn't untouchable, we've just had/are having a global meltdown!

Good luck to Jeffers4591 and all the (ex)staff from Chambers in whatever they do next.

...Jeffers4591, don't give up on Stafford, go into business some other place, Chambers didn't fail for me and for alot of others for that matter, so heck you must have been doing something right, so use that and tell us where you are next time round...

Agreed, we really liked the place. My only real gripe was I didn't like the cider that much, but that can be said for 90% of the pubs in Stafford! It is however something that kept in the P&A when having a drink after work, rather than in Chambers.

Spot on 57mph,the staff have only lost our jobs whereas the owners have lost all their money and it now seems we are all ganging up on them this is a time to take stock and let our heads rule us and not our emotions.
With the build up to xmas there are always bar jobs out there even for a 40 something barman like myself but J&N must be finding it even harder with this hanging over thier heads.
Everbody feels that if Chambers had been build even half mile outside of stafford then they would be queing out the doors to get in .

So Jeffers4591 keeps smiling and keep in touch.

Maybe they have another prospective tenant in the wings?

Just a possibility, we'll see..

Tried to read back through this lot, but gave up. Is chambers closed then as I'm supposed to be there Friday evening meeting some mates for a beer?

I've only been there twice before. Once for a beer (left straight away as every other person was sitting down eating) and the second time we went and had dinner. I had the pie special of the day (everything else was a bit pricey and money was tight at the time). Anyway the pie was so salty it was insane. Luckily I had gravy that was also really salty to go with it. Never had so much salt in my life. I could see how one part of the meal could be really salty and how someone could have made a mistake when making it, but for two aspects of the meal to be so salty I had to conclude the chef was salt mad. I know plenty of people that went there and said it was OK though. Oh and for anyone who thinks I'm some kind of salt basher I dont recall ever having a meal anywhere else in my life where I thought the food was to salty.

I really liked it in Chambers, though I never got to eat there.. Really liked the Stowfords.. hope you all find new jobs to get you through Christmas..

Also.. for what its worth.. fair play to the guys at Chambers for actually giving it a go and not letting another shell of a pub go unused

:( Sad news, never drank/eat there, but Mrs seed was shocked, as she went in a couple of days before it closed, and said what a good job they had done! Have peeped in meself, and along with reports from mates I can concure!
